Welcome to the zoo : The pictures - New pics 23 january 2021

After looking at the very nice and impressive pics of Ana and Yurumi [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] I was thinking about some Zoo pics I made and I choose to share them with you all.

I have no talents as sculptor or painter but I've got a few pics that are not so bad.

Also do you remember the fine pics Lucky Luke share with us on december 2009 for his advent calendar ? It was really great to see a good pic every day.

I will try to do the same, one or a few pics nearly everyday... I hope you will enjoy them.

If anyone have pics to share, they are very welcome

Beautiful photos my friends I love portraits of bongo and pose of tiger on the second photo. And what a nice idea to built a little bridge above giraffes I will try to find some good photos from my preview zoo trips, too.

Kiki, that Tiger is gorgeous and Ralf the Bongo is beautiful. Unfortunately I haven't been to a zoo in a very long time and I don't have any pictures. But I can enjoy looking at all yours!

The bongo pics are really nice Ralf. Wich lens do you use ? I remember it was my first avatar... Before Willy helpedme to discover I was a crazy french celebes macaque

Beautiful pictures Kiki! The water in the second picture is exquisite.
The bearded vulture is a great Ana!! I like him! The White Peacock is unusual don't think I ever heard of one before.

I also like the other pics Ana ... But that vulture pic is my favourite and I love this bird

Ana, I love that bearded vulture as well, not only is it a beautiful bird, but it is a great photo.

I agree that the bearded vulture is amazing, but the white peacock is beautiful. I have never seen or even heard of one. The spoonbill is beautiful. Thanks for the photos.

My pictures were taken at the Abilene Zoo in Abilene, Texas. Unfortunately those are the only good ones I have until I can go to another zoo. I can't find my Phoenix Zoo pictures, but I think they were before digital cameras.

Amy, there are 3 species of peacfowl, the blue, the green, and the congo. Most of the peafowl in captivity, including zoos, are blue peafowl and almost all of the color varieties are just domestic colors of the blue peafowl as well. There are white, black shouldered, pied and bronze available. The green peafowl is a native of India and very few are kept or bred, but you can find them for sale if you look. The congo peafowl is in a different genus, and is not only the rarest of the peafowl but is not available to hobbyists, in fact there are very few zoos who even keep them, but it is my favorite of the peafowl. It has a very short tail, is a beautiful deep blue and green and the little tuft of feathers on the head (which are black in most peafowl) is white.

The name peacock is used for the male, peahen for females and peafowl is for multiple birds. I was going to get some for my new bird collection, but they are a little loud and I want the congo peafowl which I can't get right now.

I finaly found out the difference between peacock and peafowl!
It's like rooster,hen and chicken!
