Well, only 3 of them are named : Kasper, Melcior, Balthazar.

- but my 4th one has got red hair. Perhaps that is the Nordic king ?
Denmark was not christened untill about year 1000 .
So perhaps this 4th king is Harald Blåtand (Harold Bluetooth), arriving a little late

Nope. No number is given. Nor are they named. Three gifts are mentioned, so early artists drew three guys, one for each gift. From that arose the myth of the "Three Kings".
The very common depiction of a horse, a Dromedary and a Bactrian is to show "universality". (Of course modern sets usually only have one camel to keep down the cost.)
Nor is there any reference that wise men and shepherds were there at the same time. Matthew has wise men, Luke has shepherds, but never the twain shall meet.
Nor is there mention of an ox and an ass. (They were inserted into nativity depictions much later, as an anti-Semetic allusion via Isaiah.)

So Harold Bluetooth has just as much right to be there as any of them!

It is always nice to learn more about certain facts in history.
I saw a lot of programms on NGC and Discovery, telling about the bible and the gospels, and what was written actually, and what could be true and what not, very interesting!
I myself read the bible and the Q'Oran to get some more knowledge, because i was not brought up with the bible and the word of God.
IMHO, a person can't have enough general knowledge!
And on this forum is so much knowlegde shared that it is much more then just a forum for animal-model collectors.
We all get much wiser around here!
