DITTO, IMAO and so on Empty
PostSubject: DITTO, IMAO and so on   DITTO, IMAO and so on EmptyThu Dec 01, 2011 9:09 pm

Sometimes this kind of expressions are used in coloquial English, and I don´t know the meaning of most of them... I know AKA means "also known as", ASAP means "as soon as possible"... I supose DITTO means somethng like "I say the same that people said before" or somethink like that, but not sure. And I have no idea about IMAO meaning...

So I think it could be great if you write here the expressions you use with the meaning, in this way I´ll be able to understand you better, and I´ll learn!

Ditto is actually a real word and it means "same as above" and is used to avoid having to write the same thing over and over when making lists. it's from accounting and retail, where they do lots of lists, but as others said, in conversation it's used for "what he/she said."

When writing a list, it's not usual to even write ditto ; instead you use the ditto mark, which is "

My favorite animals by brand:
Safari: sheep
Schleich: sheep
Papo: sheep
AAA: sheep
china: sheep

My favorite animals by brand:
Safari: sheep
Schleich: "
Papo: "
AAA: "
china: "

sorry, all my years as an editor and proofreader jumped into action here!

ROTFLMAO - there's no 'H' - unless you mean 'rolling on the hardwood floor laughing my arse off' geek

It's "humble" opinion, used to indicate you don't believe it's necessarily the last word.

"IMNSHO" = "In my not so humble opinion" = I know I'm right but I'm trying to not be arrogant about it.

You know LOL, when I first joined a forum I had no idea what that meant Laughing I couldn't understand why people added these letters to their posts scratch Rolling Eyes Then I asked my cousin who was into word abbreviating and she taught me a lot of them. study geek
