Two new birds

I have been working on a couple of birds recently, I started when I returned from Hawaii but have not had the time to work on them exclusively so it has taken me quite a while for a pair of such small figures.

I wanted something different so I decided to make a white cheeked hornbill for my African diorama. It is a large bird so in scale it was not so small that I couldn't give some details. The other bird I decided to make is an Egyptian vulture. I love Ana's palm nut vultures, they are among my favorite sculptures she has done for me. Egyptian vultures are very similar, they are just a little larger, have a slightly different color pattern and feed on fish and small live animals with carrion being a small portion of the diet. They also range all over Africa and India so I can keep the palm nut vultures on the African dio and the Egyptian vulture can go in India.

With my new camera this is the best photo I have of them. As with all of my figures they are in 1:22 and I put them next to Ana's palm nut vulture and Harriet's gemsbok for a size comparison.

I'll try but with the camera I have now when I try to get a closer photo it just washes them out. I may be able to get a good photo and use PhotoShop to enlarge the birds with the edit program.

I have just finished the rough sculpt of a male white cheeked hornbill to match the female in the photo. As a species they have the same color pattern the males are just a little bigger, a lot bulkier and have a larger casque. I'll post more photos as soon as he is finished and I'll work on a close up of them at the same time.
