| Some weeks ago i was browsing Willybacoman's Collection and i found this unusual dolphin figurine by an unknown chinese manufacterer: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]I decided to see another species in this model than a bottlenose dolphin as what it was labeled. I wanted it to become a Baiji. Afterwards, it would have been easier to make a Sousa chinensis of it. But i wanted it to become a river dolphin. Lipotes vexilifer is functionally extinct, it doesn't matter, if there are some single specimens left or not, they can't save the species, their environment is polluted and more a traffic infrastructure than one of the most interesting river ecosystems ever existed in the wild. The Baiji is very popular, while it's still living relatives as the Ganges Dolphin also disappear, we regret to have lost one species and forget to force efforts to save the still existing. Even in the Yangtze, there are still critically endangered finless porpoises (Neophocaena phocaenoides asiaeorientalis) swimming. Some are captive exactly where the best-known Baiji l (Qi Qi) lived until 2002: the Dolphinarium at Wuhan Institute of Hydrobiology. A small, sometimes not well-filtered indoor pool. And as an effect of this, most of our impressions of the species remaining are affected by the lighting conditions in the dolphinarium and the special habitus of one single male. When one browses other exiting pictures, the species showed different colours, from white to blueish grey. So i tried to paint it at least appropriate, but in the end, my "ResculptRepaintRemodel-Baiji" is mainly influenced by Pictures of Qi Qi. I know paintwork could be better, also sculpting. But river dolphins are full of scars and plump but flexible, so i had some extra tolerance for my first work ever,... | Sorry for the delay, but here we go: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]I am not entirely happy with it, as i like to have thinner flipper and a better fluke, i'd also like to have a better pose as river dolphins are very agile animals. They have to be. but it's a remodel and greenstuff (modeling clay e.g. Warhammer_Gamers use) isn't the best for it. So what, i like it:D Here a shot with its PV finless porpoise, PV Amazon river Dolphin and Animal Planet Boto Colleagues: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

| Sculpting and re-modelling is not easy Philipp, but you still made a fantastic creature back to life again! |
