PostSubject: Comparison : The brown and white Schleich bulls 13231 and 13138   Comparison : The brown and white Schleich bulls 13231 and 13138 EmptySat Feb 18, 2012 6:14 am

Perhaps I am the only one who has wondered what the difference is between these two ? scratch
Anyway, perhaps not, and then some may enjoy this  Wink

Some years ago, when I got Gascher`s catalogue, I discovered there were two almost similar brown/white bulls with different item numbers.
13321 was launched in ´96 and retired 4 yeaqrs later.
13138 replaced it and was made for the next 9 years.
( Note, the one with the highest item no is the oldest  Laughing )

So with the catalogue in hand I dug through Ebay for months, - and got more and more confused ! Shocked
There are numerous variations in painting, and at last I gave up  Crying or Very sad  geek

But this morning the mail-lady brought me a parcel from Torben, our good faithful Admin.
And among other goodies, - there it was  cheers  The REAL 13321  bounce  cheers

Here you see him to the left, together with his younger mate  Very Happy
At a first glance you see some different painting, - but there are, as I have discovered, lots and lots of variations in painting.

On the other side the paintings are more different
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

But the REAL difference is in the colour of the paint  cheers
The new one is a lot more reddish, - of course to fit to the new cows, young bull and calf, that were launched that year !
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

And look! The old one has white ears and solidly painted hooves. Look also at the face.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

A last very clear difference is that the old one has nothing about the country he was made
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The newer one here is made in Germany  Very Happy

As always the mould wasn`t changed even if the model got a new item number, - both say `95, the year before the first one was launched  Very Happy

Laughing I hope y¨all aren´t bored  stiff  Sleep  drunken  Wink

Susanne, we love traditional Schleich stories! This is truely informative to those who collect hardly Schleich. The differences between the figures are clearer now! scratch Wink
Schleich is a world full of kings and queens and you are surely one of them! queen flower

Both are very nice Very Happy , I think i would call them color variants if they wouldn't have different catalog numbers scratch Wouldn't You prefer to have color variation of this bull instead of 2 different but very similar items, Susanne? Laughing

Yes, it is strange why they have sometimes given a new painting of the same model a new item number, - like the turtle, the hyena and the 3rd variant of the beagle.
While others with VERY different painting, like the "Super-pinto", the two first beagles and the boxer, have the same item no scratch

But usually they don`t give a new no to a model when they adapt it to a new "family", - like lions, giraffe, and many of the dogs Rolling Eyes

It is what I call "specific Schleich logic" Laughing Laughing Laughing
This brand has many secrets in this kind, for example sice 2005 they changed polar bears 2 times but they couldn't change the hippo which is quite ugly silent Rolling Eyes confused
But OK, i guess they will change this hippo one day, anyway :)

Thank you for posting these most excellent photos, Susanne... :) This kind of side-by-side photo comparison which clearly shows the differences between models and variants is a huge help to all collectors.

Thankyou VERY much Very Happy flower

You just give me an idea, - I think I will put the word "comparison" in the heading Shocked
If we all do that ( if we remember Wink ) it could give some good tools for searching , don`t you think ?

There are many of those spread around in the forum, but they are almost impossible to find scratch
