| I have been collecting, having Ana make some custom, and making my own birds for a while now, so I thought I would post some photos of the collection as it stands now. First are some of the older birds, I still have them but they will not go on the model, I have improved as I make more and more so here are the oldest (first) ones I made. These are the lesser adjutants that I want to have in a colony with their nests on the Indian diorama, [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]and here is the peacock flying. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Here are a pair of saddle billed storks and a pair of waddled cranes on the African diorama. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Here are two photos, the first of some ducks I made for the Indian diorama and the second is a pair of cranes that I repainted to represent Sarus cranes from India. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Here are some other birds I have, these are Japanese models from various brands. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]These are 4 vultures made by our own Ana, 2 each of bearded vultures and palm nut vultures along with a Colorata secretary bird. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Here are some ibis and hornbills from Danny, there is a female hornbill not in the photo, she is perched and doesn't stand up on her own so I didn't put her in the photo. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Finally, here are some assorted birds, some I made others I bought, there are ducks loons and some rails. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]I am working on some cormerants and flamingos so there may be some more photos in the future. |

| Fantastic collection of birds Phil! I know it is hard to make these bird-models, they are much smaller then other models, and to paint the right colours of the feathering is maybe even more difficult... Nicely done Phil! _________________ http://www.collectorsquest.com/collector/1313/willybacoman

| This is a companion thread to the diorama saddle billed stork thread, I have been making a lot of birds some with many individuals. I will be posting photos as I go but here are some of the newest birds I have finished and a couple that I am just now sculpting. This is a list of what I have sculpted so far: 1 marabu stork 2 saddle billed storks 12 painted storks 1 black necked stork 1 black stork 1 Asian open billed stork 2 spoonbills 2 goliath herons and what I am working on: 3 red naped ibis 2 wattled cranes 1 damoiselle crane Here are two photos of painted storks with different poses, I am fairly happy with the wings open but it took 3 different models to get the feeding individual [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Here are the rough sculpts of the adult (I also have a juvenile that is about the same stage of progress) wattled crane and an almost ready damoiselle crane [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

| Very nice, Phil! Do you have one room where you display all of your dioramas? I'd love to see a photo of the grand view! :)

| Thanks for the comments, I am glad you like them, I will post more photos as I get some extra time today. I have a lot done and I'm only working on these 6 right now so even if I don't finish I will have plenty to take pictures of. - SUSANNE wrote:

I love the cranes also, - can`t wait to see them finished I made this one to be landing on one of the nests, it will have it's feet just touching down so I don't have to hang it or find a way to support him in flight. - Kristie wrote:

-Kristie I have taken some photos of the diorama in it's entirety but it is over 40 sq feet so I don't have any great shots, here is one wide angle and the next time I go out and do some work I will try to get a few more shots of the whole thing. | I'm still trying to figure out the feet, these three all have just plain wire feet but they stand alone, no need to attach them to anything. I also have to work in the painting, I'm still not able to paint that well, the paints are flat and I don't have a very good way of blending the feathers to make them come alive like so many of our really talented members. I have Harriet's gemsbok for a size comparison, they are all birds that get over 5 ft so they were easier to sculpt then some of the smaller species. There are two wattled cranes from Africa, I always like animals that are doing something so I have one of the cranes scratching it's head, it was easier then I thought to balance the bird on it's other leg so I might try some water birds standing on on leg in the future. I have a photo from the internet that I used as the basis for the pose, the other bird is a greater adjutant stork from India, it is one of the biggest storks in the world and as you can see it is very closely related to the marabu of Africa. Here is the photo I took on a small diorama base, enjoy... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |
