| [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.](ps:picture might be a little disturbing) Do you think there is any way we can really stop and hopefully end poaching? One day so many of our beautiful beasts will be only found in zoos and after that they will be no more. It makes me sad to think we may never see a tiger in the wild again or a elephant. Many animals are used in medicine, but just plain killing for body parts to sell I think is wrong.Let me know what you think. _________________ Kelsey [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]"Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened." ~Anatole France |

| Uhhh, I don`t dare to look Once poachers in Europe were doing it because they were hungry, - some still do. But I fear that as long as there are stupid people buying from them, it can`t be stopped. Where I live, I sometimes hear shots from the forest at night, - that is the worst kind of poachers at work, the ones who are just miserable, slimy, nasty, stupid and egoistic idiots. |

| Yes I feel the same! I was watching this documentary about the illegal trade of ivory and it's just sad to watch because the people in the trade actually do not know that the elephants need to be killed in order to get their tusks. They just assumed that tusks are elephant teeth, meaning that the animal does not need to die for people to get their teeth. Just goes to show how lethal ignorance can be.. |

| I hate poachers. Where I am from, people sometimes go out at night with a spotlight and a rifle and shoot deer. I hate this kind of hunting. I am not opposed to legal hunting, as I am an avid hunter, as long as it is done respectfully and legally. |

I agree with you Susanne. In a lot of countries poachers are people who do the job because they have a lot of mouths to feed. Even if I love animals, I probably do the same if I have to choose between a tiger, an elephant or my daughter... I don't think every human being is bad, most of us are trying to have a decent life without disturbing our neighbours. The human specie destroyed a lot of animal species by ignorance or because past technology couldn't help. For example Dodo or Big tortoises were the only way for sailors to find fresh meat on their road and to avoid scurvy... Nowadays, Chinese "medecine" is killing rhinos and tigers because other medecine failed to replace it. And I'm afraid when I heard about people from my country who decide to learn Chinese "medecine"... Worst than that, since there is someone who wants something so badly and so stupidly that even the risk of a specie's extinction will not stop his appetite, you will find people to make a business " If it's not me... it will be someone else so...". People who are able to spend money like this, without thinking about the consequences for the fauna, are dangerous for the fauna... And for us. |

| Well, the truth is that in some countries, mainly those poor or low-educated, people do not care about other's lives. There is a strong belief in China that tigers' bones etc. can cure diseases, it is deep in their culture and it is really hard to get rid of it, and Chinese use it just to make money. It is the same as eating a carp for Christmas in Poland (which I do not do): so many people earn money on spilling the blood of the innocent just because the tradition says to eat fish. Fortunately there are so many people that teach others about that animals also feel pain, that our community is conscious about it. I can understand that some tribes, for example in Nepal or Amazon forest, have to kill animals, but they always somehow apologise them for that, which is just unbelieveable. |

Yes, these strong beliefs exist in China, but they are hardly the province of the "poor or low-educated" as they are prevalent in the monied classes which can actually afford the exorbitant prices charged for what are typically viewed as apothecary items or super-luxury food items, such as shark fin. You are right Phil, we must render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's. |
