The "Brown Bull" (13219) Empty
PostSubject: The "Brown Bull" (13219)   The "Brown Bull" (13219) EmptyTue Apr 10, 2012 10:43 pm

I finished an appointment today and wondered whether there were any nearby toy stores. This is where an iPhone comes in handy! It directed me to a small neighborhood toy store two blocks from where my car was parked. When I asked if they carried "small plastic animals," I was directed to several racks of tube-animals by Safari. I'm not really interested in these tube-animals. However, on a lower shelf, I noticed several Papo dinosaurs, three Schleich chickens that I already own (but this didn't stop me from buying another brown hen) and, strangely, about seven copies of a brown bull I'd never seen before. Some had the Schleich tag, others didn't. It turned out that those made in China had the tags, whereas those made in Germany didn't. I grabbed a german-made model, since it was the cleanest and most pristine of those available. The figure turned out to be the "Brown Bull" (13219) retired back in 1995. I have no idea why this store still has several of them lounging around on what looked like a "discard" shelf. But it was a nice find for me. Here are some pictures I took when I got home.

(I don't know if this was a good or bad thing, but I told the store owners that there were mint instances of this figure going for nearly 30 € on eBay.de. This seemed to get their attention.)

Then I went next-door and bought some marzipan to celebrate.

What an extremely fantastic unbelievably wonderful find Shocked
I wonder if these bulls have been lying there for 17 years affraid

Ohhh, so lucky that you at least save one of them cheers sunny

It is a great model, and the brown one is quite unusual, - much more than the black/white one which was made for twice as long, - and part of a playset as far as I remember Rolling Eyes Very Happy

Nice of you to let the shop keeper know the value of the bulls. I bet he's already listed them on eBay Laughing

Thank you everybody!

My dream is to walk into a dusty, out-of-the-way store and find a Schleich Wisent and Schleich Oryx Antelope, both in perfect condition. Then after buying them, I can walk out of the store and just fall over dead from an overwhelming sense of completion and happiness. (kidding....sort of. I'm sure I would fall over, but hopefully not dead.)

(Notice that I've given up calling the Wisent a 'European Bison'. Just one of the many positive influences of this forum.)

You're very lucky, it reminded me of when I bought some very rare schleich in the entertainer that no one had bought for at least 7 years. I had been looking for them for ages on the Internet but I was shocked to see them right in front of me. I wonder if the shop will sell the rest on eBay

I'm curious too! I am often in that area of Boston (it is a town technically just outside Boston: Newton; but Boston itself is so tiny, that most people refer to the cities around Boston as 'Boston' and that seems correct to me). Next week, when I'm in that neighborhood again, I'm going to go look and see if they've left them out. I'll bet that while they found it interesting that they are valuable, it isn't worth it to them to try to sell them on eBay.

aandmkw wrote:

I had a hard time with that. I wanted to buy more, in part just because they are more valuable than the $6 they were being sold for. But on the other hand, I don't know what I'd do with more than one. I don't want to buy them, mark them up, and sell them myself. The money I'd make wouldn't be worth the time I'd spend on it. I'd rather be doing my own work (reading a book, preparing for classes) than packaging animals for buyers and going to the post office. But, I'll be honest, I had to think long and hard before I walked out of the store with just one.
