Yes, isn`t it a strange critter ?
I think it was Christophe who showed it first, and I was totally confused, also because the name is Mastodonsaurus, and a mastodont is was a sort of elelfant-looking animal

Indeed, mastodonsaurus was in the European books in the 1960's and 70's. I remember A Burian illustration
