Schleich Hyena's 14139 and 14347

As schleich collectors know, there are two paintings of the Schleich hyena. 14139 from `97 - ´99 and 14347 from ´05 - ´06.

My old one was very scratched, but I have not really looked for a better one.
Then last week I saw one that was much less worn, if not perfect, and very cheap for a retired Schleich.

Wow, was I happy when I got him and he ( or the other one) was... A VARIANT

I was just thinking that. So similar, yet so different. It's all about the eyes, IMHO.


Congratulations on finding the new one, and I'm glad you value the variations and save them. I collected Breyer animals, and in Breyers, variations are important; the number of socks or the color of mane and tail can make the difference between a model's being worth $10 or $100.

you have to really know your stuff, and be lucky, and be rich.

Makes me shake my head though. A lot of antique shops know old Breyers are "worth a lot of money" so they think all old Breyers are worth a lot and you see ridiculous price tags on them even when they are scratched up. In an antique shop this weekend, I saw a $40 price tag on a Breyer that is worth $10 in perfect condition.
I'm very glad I stopped collecting when I did. I'd go mad now if I were collecting Breyer now, there are so many being produced these days.

Yes, Carolynne, it is sure takes all 3 + a bit of hard (fun!) work to be a collector.

I was just thinking, - my friend has a big off-roader.
In Denmark those are not only madly expensive to buy, they are also sucking petrol like people breethe air at app 3 dollars/2 Euros al liter .
You have to pay a fortune in "Road tax" every year, and spare parts cost a fortune.

Some play golf, some go to exotic places on holiday, some buy clothes or go to fine restaurants, have plastic surgery or what not

:) I lucked out on german ebay site with these. They are a lot more rarer in the US.. and people on the US ebay pay more for them then I did for these guys. Lucky me! XD

The funny thing about Ebay.com and Ebay.de is that you can get some REAL bargains in USA, while in the Herman one, the only bargains are usually those where the sellers will not sell outside Germany or/and don`t take PayPal ! Or at least that is my impression

Speaking of which! I remember seeing some fine bullyland hyenas!! Only the person would not sell outside of Germany! Sucked for me haha.
