| I've been so impressed by all the pictures of Starlux models I see on the forum, I finally decided to try to pick up a few. Here is my first Starlux acquisition. I really like it. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]I hope to get more (and more should be coming, since I boneheadedly bid too high on one figure on eBay; but I'm looking forward to getting it and will post a picture when I do). |

| Scott, congratulations for your new Starlux! The only Starlux I have in my collection is a cave bear. I wanted to have one of the figures of this brand in my hands, although the cave bear was not in my wishes. A lucky trade only. Anyway I get always impressed with that remarkable vintage brand and with the diversity of animals that this brand introduced in the market so many years ago. Actually, I like to judge a lot of characteristics in a figure, but diversity is my main pleasure. I read in the other tread that you got the babirusa, that's a dream for animal lovers. |

| Nice model!I too only have one Starlux animal-a Deinotherium and its really great.Starlux are hard to come by in the U.K. I got this model many years ago in a small toyshop in a country town and I dont think they even knew what it was as it was also very inexpensive to buy! |

| Congratulations! I really like Starlux. The prehistoric line particularly, but I like them all. Unfortunately they are expensive these days. The hard plastic breaking is probably one reason. My greatest regret on eBay is that there was a seller years ago who was clearing out perhaps a store or something. They would offer groups of 20 or more figures at a time, all the series grouped by animal types. The auctions all tended to go at about the same price. I bid low a couple of times but didn't put too much effort in. "$18 for only 20 figures? No way, that's much too high!" _________________ Tim :) ToyAnimal.info - The Toy Animal Collecting Wiki Animoblog Animobil.info Playmobil Animals

| Thank you everybody!! (I've been a little inactive for the last few days -- unhappily for me. I am overrun by out of town visitors, which is wonderful, but means I haven't been able to enjoy this forum as often as I would like.)
Susanne and Andreas, you are right I think: I will definitely be getting more.
Harriet and Sumo, they are definitely pleasing to look at; they've got a very special quality. I'm a bit smitten.
Thank you Kristie, Taylor, and Anna as well, for your nice comments!
Aggghh Tim, that is heartbreaking. And makes me drool at the thought of such a great deal!
And Roger, I agree about the diversity. The range of species and types is really impressive. That alone endears me to this brand.

| Subject: Babirusa and Impala by Starlux Wed Aug 01, 2012 3:05 am | |
| I'm posting too much, but I have time and I should take advantage of this fact before work makes it difficult to visit the forum as much as I'd like. I bid on some Starlux figures recently, from two different sellers on eBay. I was lucky (and not fiscally responsible), but unwrapping the packages and holding these models in my hand was truly a pleasure. (I know Shawn also purchased at least one figure from the same seller. I'm really looking forward to seeing his pictures of the Hartebeest!) I'm going to start by sharing photos of just two of the models I received: The Babirusa and the Impala. They are currently my favorites of the bunch. I was eagerly anticipating the Babirusa. My reaction to the Impala was a bit of a surprise though; I pulled it from its wrapping and fell a little in love. (It's too bad Christophe is away for several days, since I know he collects Starlux. Also, I'm still experimenting with a technique for photographing models and owe both him and Harriet a shout out since the resulting effect is similar to the style of images they sometimes share. Their images are much more impressive of course. Here, the blue background doesn't work well with the Babirusa, since the model itself is painted blue in places. I should have used another background color. Live and learn. In any case, I'll be going to back to my usual wood surface and white walls in the background once that area of our apartment is uncluttered again.) First, the Babirusa. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]A slightly better view of his beautiful tusks: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] And a comparison shot for size. Here I'm using the Schleich 2012 Adult Giant Panda. Starlux models are small. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Second, the Impala. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]And a comparison shot for size. Here, I'm using the Schleich Oryx. | GONGRATULATIONS, Scott They are fabulous ! Not only is Starlux quite exceptionel, - these two are the best of the best IMHO . Look at that barbirusa : So much beauty and detail in one tiny model ! The impala, yes ! As far as I remember, it was one of the very first Starlux I got, and fell in love with too. The elegance, the expression, and all so neat and tiny...and mine is old and worn, yours is BRAND NEW Thankyou for the wonderful pictures and wellcome to the fan-club of these beautyful, little models |

| Scott, as some macaques of this forum would say, these little miracles of the past are good lessons to modern brands. See how nicely Starlux got the lightness of an impala and how the Schleich oryx looks heavy as a "cow". Anyway both are nice figures! :) The babirusa is absolutly spectacular I whish I had this figure! An unusual species, a perfect size for my taste and a great sculpting full of detail. Thanks for your great pictures and congratulations for being the proud owner of these 2 little wonders! |

Congratulation for your two newcomers, I'm a bit late on this topic but I enjoy it a lot. Indeed Impala and babirusa are excellent and are good example of what a company can do with hard plastic. Not the most accurate models but so elegant and fine. Your pics are excellent too Scott and not less "impressive" |

| Thank you Christophe! I really appreciate the kind words. And I agree that Starlux animals are quite amazing. These models are some of my absolute favorites. Here are two more. I don't have many starlux and probably won't get a chance to get many more, but the ones I have, I treasure. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |
