My understanding is that the colored dot on the bottom side of the foot used to be the previous way that the Schleich marked them.
Blue, red, green...

In present times you will notice that certain figures have a tag that is a certain color and usually the color on the tags represents how much that figure sells for.
So the colored dot is the same.

Does this make sense?

Yes I think you're right Sue, that is what I understood it to mean.

This is a wonderfull Schleich link: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Here I have found the text for blue marks (and other colours too): [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

The page is Swedish (sorry), but it's still very nice and there is many good tips. Here is the Google Translation for Blue marks:

"BLUE DOT

- What does it mean?

When you turn on the animals we find sometimes a blue dot in one of the hooves or paws. For my part, there has never been about animals produced in China, and never on animals produced after 2007.
As collectors do it myself, of course, curious to know more about the blue dot.

My question to Mr Gneiding, Information on Schleich. Unfortunately, the answer is not very exciting for me as a collector.
The blue dot was used internally at Schleich as marker for a certain period of production. It has no importance for the quality of the animal.

My rottweiler from 2000, right, was no better or worse by the knowledge of the blue dot, which is well, I'll say."

So those dots are only Schleich's own marks, they haven't any extra-value... :)

The blue ( or sometimes yellow) dot tells that the model was made in a later thant the forst batch.

The year that is molded, tells when the moald was made ( in Schleichs that means the year before it was first launched).

Sometimes there is a little number moulded. That is because the mould was made to make several ones of one model at the same time. The number shows which part of the mold it came from, so if something goes wrong , they will only have to repair that one part of the mould.

With the present better methods of manyfacturing all this is not needed.
Look under one of new models. They have like a little "clock", showing when the model was made.

Ralf sent a nice little video about how the models are made [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Even if they speak German, it is easy to see what goes on.

I hope this helps ? Wink

I couldn't find a topic about this, so I'll ask it here.

A lot of the older Schleich figures I own have a colored dot on their foot. Most of the dots are blue, I believe I have a red one, and I think I've seen yellow before as well. I've heard many theories about these dots, such as for the pricing system, what mold was used, and what country it was painted or molded in. But I have yet to know the true reason. And why do some models have one, and the other not? For example, I have two of the lying Persian cats - one has a blue dot and the other no dot. DO other brands have these dots? I am sure that some of the experts here on the forum will know the answers to these questions. I've always wondered this since I got my first figure with the dot! Very Happy
