Etching is a technique that consists only in retiring the paint of certain areas to show the white resin below. So it´s useful to create white patterns, but not for other kind of coats. Some are very basic, but other works are truly amazing! | These are my customized collard peccaries, or Javelinas (Pecari tajacu). Peccaries are small hog-like creatures (but they're not pigs!) which live in South america, Mexico, and up into North America, particuarly in Texas, and the Sonoran Desert of Arizona. They travel in herds of up to thirty individuals, but bands tend to be smaller. They're also called "musk hogs" due to the smelly secretions they emit when frightened or threatened. Figures of Javelina are virtually impossible to find, so I customized my own. I cut the tails off several "Made in China" wild boars, whittled their legs down, carved their tusks off and reduced their faces. When that was done, I primed them in grey spray paint, and painted them with Apple Barrel acrylic paints!https://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=10151624852458787&set=pb.500888786.-2207520000.1353304327&type=3&theater |

| I love them all! So many good ideas, and very well done too! I don't have any pictures yet - only just began - but my newest project is an antelope of the genus Kobus (exact species as yet undecided) from a plain resin deer model found in a furniture shop. Apparently, deer are in, and so the shops suddenly have lots of very affordable models with lots of customizing potential. They're primed white* and in theory ready to paint, but mine has very rough seams and would need some bodywork even if I wasn't resculpting it. * - and why is random crap painted white suddenly the thing to have in your house? _________________ Stuff you should be reading: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |

| Christophe, I used just generic "Made in China" boars for the adults. The piglet is a re-painted Marx farm piglet. As you can imagine, trying to find a tiny enough piglet that might pose for a infant peccary was difficult! But I'm pleased that you like them. The peccaries work well in my Sonoran desert diorama i custom built. |
