:( no interest in Kaiyodo and other japanese brands in STS in the sale/trade section?

i just noticed, while browsing through the sale/trade section of STS, people are only interested to trade their spare/unwanted figures for the big six brands (Schleich, Papo, CollectA, Mojo, Safari, Bullyland) and/or the vintage european companies. am i mistaken or people are indeed not interested in/looking for the japanese brands just because they arent that commonly available from other collectors, especially those who are based in europe. please enlighten me STS friends. what is your opinion regarding this matter?

Well, i am interested in Kaiyodo and other asian brands. But i am not a fan of the puzzle animals like ChocoQ. Now i found better puzzle Kaiyodo animals (Natural monuments too) and i change my my for this.

But i dont know older models so that i search for that and also i have any of this wonderful animal in my zoo.

I know there are here a lot of people interested in Japanese figures. I only have some Choco Eggs I received from Kristie, a fox that I received from Ken and Also a Dino from Mihnea.
They are truly amasing, very well sculpted but definitively not what I collect. I'll keep these and maybe get some more but I don't feel the same pleasure holding a puzzle in my hands as I feel with other figures.
Anyway, I was lucky enough to receive 3 sea figures from Sue, very small and glossy but I really love them what would mean that I love best Colorata than Caiyodo.

I think the problem is that they are so darned expensive, - and often they are only for trade for stuff that very few people have doubles

As for Japanese figures, I'm interested in Re-Ment animals the most. But I really like Kaiyodo figures too. So count me interested. : D

Not all Japanese figures are expensive. I've bought almost all my Kaiyodos less than 5 dollars...



I also have a mint spare Re-Ment baby giraffe for trade/sale if someone's interested.....

edit: Maybe the reason people don't list JP figures in the search forum is that the complete lists of figures made by Kaiyodo are kinda hard to find... Maybe they don't know what to ask/what they want.

I can say that I am very Kaiyodo positive :) But no collector in my country can start with Kaiyodo - simply here is no shop with Kaiyodo figures. I am started collecting with no name Hong Kong figures and VEB Plahos from GDR and then (after 1989) Schleich ones. Czech Republic has strong relationship with Germany so Schleich and Bullyland figures are widely available here today, Papo figures come with unspecified delay but You can get it. It is very painful to get Safari figures here (import is the better solution). CollectA has two years delay, Mojo is almost unknown. The only chance to get here the Kaiyodos is the Internet.

Then appear new problems:
1) language barrier (E-Bay is no real solution, E-Bay offers mostly pre-selected, often overpriced items)
2) additional fees (middleman in Asian auction, foreign customs etc.)
3) collectors mind related issues (scale problem - very similar size for mice as for whale, puzzle dilemma,...)

So many collectors prefers figures like Schleich - not for their better quality but their better and simplest availability. Remember, big part of collectors community are teenagers and for many of them is collecting only very temporary passion.

I collect primarily birds and terrestrial mammals. There are some Kaiyodo items I can trade and another I still like to add to my collection. If You interested, please PM.

I love many of the japanese brands and the kaiyodo/furutu models particularly. They are hard to come by though. They are often drastically overpriced on eBay. I bide my time until a deal comes along.

I don't know why they aren't traded more often. I think what Jarda says is most likely correct: people outside Japan don't start with Kaiyodo when beginning their animal collections and so they aren't commonly pawned off once someone is done collecting.

(The last figure I would ever trade is my Kaiyodo Bongo.)

it's great to hear all the opinions regarding japanese brands (KAIYODO in particular). i needed to know what everyone has in mind because i want to know my position when i start advertising/offering my extra kaiyodos to others who are interested. i have extras/multiples and have to trade them for figures i want and accessible to other collectors. will trade mine for the usual brands like papo, schleich, safari, collecta, etc. (please let me know if people are indeed interested to trade by the way.)

I believe there are many collectors here would like to collect them. Initially, I think middle man in asia is really charging a lot and also found out that all began in Japan. Most of their items only releases for only 6 months. once is retires, the price somehow can be ridiculous.

I have quite a some extra and maybe will try to sell later! The reason I bought in bulk and which costs cheaper!

I'm interested too I like Kaiyodos very much. Some of them I really would love to get very, very, very much

I like Kaiyodo, but they are quite expensive. And as long as I collect some particular species and breeds, for me there's some interest in some particular Kaiyodo figures- like cats (which I consider to be the best cats figurines), some birds and raptors, but not the whole assortment of the brand. However, I have a lot of joy just looking at them in other people collections :)

more people got doubles of figurines of brands that are easily available for them.
Trading for Kayiodo means you may have to give more models or rarer ones. Off brands you have access to. and most times, the kaiyodo-trading person too. So you have to wait until you find something rare you don't want yourself but the trading partner,...
Second thing. some Chocoq, especially pets and some fish, became very cheap.
So more and more people have Kaiyodos to trade. Bu what if you don't collect pets etc.?
Kaiyodo doesn't mean "unbelievably attractive"
I bought some models for 3 Euros online the last months. About one year ago, they were harder to get,....

it seems like i would be able to trade all my extra Kaiyodos finally and i just received four boxes of figures from Japan and excited to sort them out.
i still havent forgotten those nice people who contacted me via PM to express their interest to trade with me, they are my priority.
