A trip to the National Zoo in KL Empty
PostSubject: A trip to the National Zoo in KL   A trip to the National Zoo in KL EmptyTue Dec 11, 2012 10:07 am

Here's to share another collection of photos from the local zoo in my state. It's only a half hours drive from my home.

These are Indian Gaur Bull, they look like cattle on steroids!! Shocked

The Malaysian version of the Gaur, named 'Seladang' in the local language.

Capybara trio waiting it out in the rain

Two tapirs lazing it out in the afternoon heat

Malaysian gharial, locally named 'Buaya Jenjulung'

Water monitors all piled up. I suspect it is to conserve heat and to get closest to the heat source which is the sun :)

Aldabra tortoise, snoozing in the sun as well...

Emu walkabout Very Happy

Thanks for viewing guys glad I can share these photos with all sunny sunny The animals there are mostly hand-raised from babies so they are quite used to humans. We can even feed the elephants by donating a couple of dollars for a small bunch of bananas or sugar canes, it was so much fun seeing their trunks take things so delicately out of our fingers....worth experiencing it!!! cheers cheers bounce

You're all most welcome, I hope this will make it easier for anyone who wishes to view some animals not in their local zoos

Note: I've made a mistake in the animal name, the 'Seladang' in the pic is actually not a gaur (Bos gaurus) but Bos javanicus, which in the local name is called 'Banteng'. It is a type of Indonesian wild cattle with a wide distribution across the Malay Archipelago. The Seladang / Malayan gaur is similar to the Indian Gaur but less stocky than the Indian subspecies unfortunately I don't have the pics.

Other animals:

Barking deer seeking shelter from the noon sun
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The ankole love their heads scratched bounce

A trio of binturongs having a siesta sunny . They do smell butterish drunken

Chital deer

Cassowary with soccer ball. Totally random. What a Face
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Sleepy cute face drunken

Giant snakeheads

The Ankole and Banteng are used to humans, it's fun feeding them long grass and playing tug of war game cheers
