| These sharks are beautiful, do not have a base to support them as with the whales?
Thanks for sharing! |

Thanks for sharing! This sharks set is the "Shark of the world" box made in 2004. COLORATA also made a Marine mammals set in those years without a base too. Later the brand produced a "Sharks DX" and a "Marine Mammals DX" sets with basis.

| @Kikimalau - can you confirm from the booklet in the first set, the manta ray was indicated as M. birostris?
I ask because in 2009 (5 years after the set came out), M. alfredi was lifted from synonomy with M. birostris, and the figure is morphologically M. alfredi.
Thanks! -Blaine |

| Alas I can't tell, the set is from 2004 and at that time Colorata booklets were leaflets. Everything was in Japanese except the English name. I agree with you it is M. alfredi, even Colorata agree since the size noted on leaflet is 3 to 5 meters. I change the name a stupid macaque wrote in 2013. It is teh only Manta ray I have now in my collection and I hope I will find an accurate M. birostris to crowd more my shelves.

The 2018 Safari manta is nicely sculpted and painted to be M. birostris (and scales well with the Colorata M. alfredi) :) |
