One thing that distinguishes the model horse hobby, compared with the rest of the model animal world, is the attention given to the sculptors working for the bigger companies.
The rise of Collecta and Mojo has changed this somewhat, but the model world is still full of commercial sculptors who are never credited for their work. So how about we list the ones we know of? Names, brand affiliation, signature style, any info anyone can provide!
Kathleen Moody:
Current Breyer sculptor, has also worked for Safari. Known Safari pieces are the running stock horse, standing Arab stallion and foal, and (according to Modelhorsegallery.info) a baboon, a jaguar or leopard, and some cattle. Moody's horses tend to be rather stylized with big hair, inaccurate biomechanics, and dramatic poses.
Jane Lunger:
Sculpted the G3 (and half the G4) Stablemate line for Breyer and has sculpted all Safari horses for the last decade or so. I don't know whether she also does wildlife. Lunger's style is very "clean" with good muscle detail and little to no hair texturing. Her horses tend to have shortish necks and thick legs with nicely sculpted tendons and joints.
Forest Rogers:
Sculpts all the Carnegie dinosaurs. Rogers pieces are very accurate and up to date, and easily recognized due to their slender limbs and wrinkly skin texture.
Sommer Prosser:
Sculpted Safari's walking Clydesdale and Arab mare, plus foals for both. Has sculpted several pieces for Breyer, as well as a number of resins.
... and that's all I can think of at the moment. Please add to this list!
