How do you repaint animal figures

Hi,

Can anyone tell me how do you paint animal figures? What kind of colors do you use (Oil?)? I'm interested in repainting the 2013 Schleich Black Panther. The one I got looks kinda weird. The teeth are almost black, and the face coloring sucks. I'm not sure if all of them like that or just the one i got. Maybe someone can share theirs.
