PostSubject: Bromeliads   Bromeliads EmptyFri Aug 02, 2013 1:35 am

Hello everyone, sorry I've been absent from most of the forums but as many of you know my health has been very poor lately and I have not been able to do much.  One of the things I have done is a project for the Sacramento Bromiliad and Carnivorus Plant Society, they have an annual show every summer and one of the directors of the show is familiar with my tree sculptures.  He asked if I would do a scale model of a tree with some bromiliads growing on it and I decided to work on it for them.

I am going to work on a South American scene so I chose 1:22, I already have a coati mundi by Anna as well as her mountain tapir, and I have the basic idea for the scene planned out for many years so I picked one of the trees I was going to make and started there.  It is a rainforest giant, thin and tall, over 100 feet tall in life, making it 4 ft 2 inches tall (50 inches) in scale!  Here is a photo of it with my 9 year old nephew just to give an idea of how tall it is.

Here are a few pics of the tree from different views.

I added a windmill palm at the base to give it some character, I will cover the clay in artificial dirt and leaves for the show.

Here are the different species of bromiliads, there are 6 different species in 4 genera and 3 subfamilies.

I will add some different plants to the base and some mosses to the trunk but other then minor details it is pretty much done. Hope you enjoyed the photos, more to come as the Amazon comes to my house!
