| "Baby"Panda ? what's that ? You mean a Panda Cub ?
Best Thing I've ever heard was on a Bus Tour through Longelat Safaripark, so the Driver named an ancole calf as "Baby Ancole Cattle Calf...
My Godness, what a strange time we live in nowadays... |

My Godness, what a strange time we live in nowadays... As I am not the best person to discuss English language, I used a reputed dictionary, Baby definition on Cambridge dictionary "A2 a very young animal: a baby elephant/ monkey Animal young" It looks the word baby is not exclusive to primates, Though, I admit, a baby calf is somewhat redundant! |

| I don't like it to name animal Youngsters as a"baby",(exception Apes and bigger monkeys) most of them does have a name like foal, cub or calf and piglet, and so People should use These term instead of the cute term"baby" a sit was many years ago...
But whats worse, poeple today say 2baby Elephant"or"baby Zebra" or"baby Panda"-that's horrible ! |

| I agree with you, Bongo! To me it is very strange to name very young animals as babies. In my language only humans have babies and perhaps some apes. (We have adopted the word from English.) Animal youngsters have their own names as foal, calf, kitten etc. Many people here in Norway, both young people and also not so young, use the Norwegian words for boy and girl instead of male and female about their pets. Even aquarium fishes are named as boys and girls and babies. In my ears that is horrible too. Edit: Susanne, - you are right, we can't do anything about it. |

My Godness, what a strange time we live in nowadays... Are you happy now? Sorry but here I want infirmations about the panda and not about the ebglish language. And yes I know that in the moment are many other panda cubs in other zoos, but the cub in Schönbrunn is a special one. Maybe you can read the article |
