Vintage inspired models

I recently made some elephant models inspired by the vintage brands.  It was mixing old ideas with new technology as I sculpted the figures on the computer then had them 3D printed as physical plastic models.  I chose this time to make the textures more subtle like the old Lineols and copy the simplified paintwork.

The models are 1:22 scale and based on real elephants, a two year old Indian and a five year old African (both cows).


When I first got the models they were white and needed to be painted.

In the painting process with a chopstick in the foot to secure.

Compared with Jeol 1:32 adult elephant cow.....mines is a 1:22 five year old cow.

Compared with the Schleich young elephants.

Next on my list to make is a 1:22 scale Indian based on the bull Siam from Paris Zoo.  (He had extremely long tusks)  
I have most of the model done as shown below with texture to be added next, I may make it in the Lineol style as well.

OHHHH! They are so beautyful, I almost get tears in my eyes   

Poor Schleich calves. They look so clumsy and alien together with these fabulous models

WOW! no words. All of them excellent models. Probably I prefer hand made ones; they seem more accurate and detailed and texture is not so 'lineal', but they are excellent anyway.

I think the oldest brands are the perfect prototype and classical perfection for creating animal figures.

Thanks Susanne, the schleich African calf does look very alien and stumpy with weird proportions but the colour and texture is nice.

Thanks Joan, yes the 3D printing softens some of the details but that depends on the material you choose to print with.  The plastic I chose to print is cheaper so less details but you can get much more crisp details if you use a more expensive option.  Also in future models I will over emphasize the details so they will print clearer in this material.

Thanks, I use a program called z brush to make my models.

Thanks Anna, I am looking into setting up a shop to sell these and other models.......possibly some antelopes or other species.

Thanks Roger, I think hyrax would be too small to sculpt at 1:22 scale but I'm thinking about other species now.

These are beautiful!!! You'll have to keep us up to date on the shop, I would love to buy several of your models, handmade or 3-D. Thanks for the photos, especially the size comparisons, it gives a great perspective on just how the brand name figures scale compares rather then just a number.
