| I love this tiny model so much! It is so small yet so incredibly detailed and looks just like the real animal! It's amazing that they have managed to get this accuracy at such a small scale! |

| Very late to the party despite my love for Tapirs since I visited the Singapore Night Safari when I was 6. Just ordered the (original) Mojo Brazilian and CollectA Baird's from modellpferdeversand and they're currently on their way to me! Is Ana's fantastic Mountain Tapir still available? Or has it long since been retired? The Likaon model website seems to be defunct unfortunately. | How well recognised are the following 4 subspecies of Tapirus terrestris? And are there real-life photographic examples of each subspecies? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| I think that's not an easy question, especially when the taxa is still highly debated. For example, one of the Brazilian tapir species is considered to be closer related to the Mountain tapir than with the other subspecies. So, there is here a contradiction but it does not invalidate any of the subspecies, the problem is if mountain tapirs should really be placed as a full species. |

Very interesting, especially considering how variable T. terrestris is in their appearance based on population. And then there's the "little black tapir" T. kabomani, which like you said complicates things even further. Though with how large T. terrestris's range is across South America, I wouldn't be surprised if one day, distinct regional variants / subspecies are recognised in literature. I think I've found examples of 3 "recognised" subspecies of T. terrestris. Though admittedly I'm no taxonomist, nor have I done the appropriate reading to be able to comment on the validity of these classifications. T. t. terrestris [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]T. t. spegazzinii [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]T. t. colombianus [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]T. kabomani as well cus why not, it's an awesome species! Very distinct from the traditional T. terrestris. (would love to see someone make a figure of that by the way, along with the Mountain Tapir ) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| Managed to track down the CollectA Baird's, Mojo Brazilian; and finally, the ever elusive Safari ltd Malayan Tapir! It's been on my wishlist for quite some time now, and very glad that I finally own one of the best Tapir figures ever made. Now all that's left is for a major company to make a Mountain Tapir and Kabomani Tapir... Also tempted to get a few more Mojo Brazilians to repaint into the 3 subspecies / regional variants. Huge thanks to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] for helping me get the Malayan! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
