CollectA 2015: WILDLIFE - Amur Leopard (88708)

Dear all

You will have already seen this in another post but here again is the image of the CollectA Amur Leopard.  A leopard was requested by a regular CollectA customer but I tried my best and convinced CollectA to create this particular species.  Children will get to have a Leopard whilst we collectors get to have an unusual species.  This is after all the rarest cat in the world and I feel it is an important species to capture as a model whilst we still have it around.  The pose was modelled on a photograph of a hunting Amur Leopard.  

Their coat can change slightly depending on the season and this is modelled on a winter coat with the thicker, hairier coat.

Note that this is an image of the prototype and not the final plastic version.  The feet will have been reduced very slightly in size:

This is awesome, I wanted an amur leopard for my collection (made one myself) but now I can a great model!!! Thanks Numaan and CollectA!

Great model and for a great reason! Hopefully the Amur Leopards will be around for a while

It's good thinking of CollectA to make a particular species of leopard instead of just a regular one.

Thanks Numaan for your effort to convince CollectA making this quite endangered subspecies. It is already in my wish list, no other pictures are needed.
I love th long and thick coat as usual in Amur leopards, pose is exciting and the pattern seems correct with complete thick rings with a darkened center. It was also one of main wishes of the founder of this forum... Torben!
I also appreciate that brands like CollectA are going up to subspecies level, I hate particularly figures that are generically identified like it happens sometimes with Papo or Schleich. We already know this year there aren't many new figures but if they keep like that, it will be excelent.
By the way, will previous CollectA leopard be discontinued? It is a figure under average quality.

thanks for your comments. Yes, exploring sub-species is a good thing especially when they are rare or endangered which will help bring them to the attention from the general public but also because it will please both collectors and children. Kids get a leopard (no matter what the species) and adults get a rare animal. From my understanding this Leopard will replace the older version. There are already a zillion generic leopards on the market so why not an Amur leopard?

Glad you like it. I am waiting to receive the final plastic version of this - the photos show a lot more detail as it is a prototype and some of this is always inevitably lost during the production phase. More importantly the feet should be slightly smaller so keen to see that and share with you all.

Yes Numaan, that's exactly what I like about the "new" CollectA.
For a long time there was only generic animals and not especially fine models, CollectA was an outsider on the wildlife range.
For a long time, having a sub-species or a rare one had only three answers in the Collector's world:
1 - Have a look at the Japanese brands and maybe...
2 - Find a good sculptor and invite her ( or him) for a dinner
3 - Do it yourself

Now it is easier: Pm Numaan " Hello dear, do you know the , especially the Berrichon sub-species ?" Then wait a year or two and survey the CollectA section on STS

Last years, most of the CollectA I bought were far better than the official pics: Springbock , Saola , Scimitar orx , it is a never ending list

Hi Roger thanks for your comments, much appreciated. I am also keen to receive and inspect the final plastic version which I hope will look better.

As for the comments regarding my avatar, it is a random close up of one of the new 2015 figures.....a small creature so can anyone guess? I am sure the pictures will be announced soon... :-)

Your idea was simply brilliant! I never understood the reason why every company make the same two or three species year after year. Kids want a red macaw? Not a problem, but why always a Ara macao and never a Ara chloropterus???
