Barracudacat's Animals Empty
PostSubject: Barracudacat's Animals   Barracudacat's Animals EmptyMon Oct 10, 2016 11:02 pm

I decided to make a new topic to post the non-canine animal figures in my collection.  A lot of these will be prehistoric life, reptiles, fish, and some cats.  I may or may not post the horses separately.  To start off, I'd like to upload a few dinosaurs.  They are the deluxe CollectA Baryonyx (that I use as a 1:40 scale Suchomimus), the Battat/Terra Parasaurolophus, the Carnegie/Safari Amargasaurus, and the Battat/Terra Tyrannosaurus Rex.

That's an interesting assortment of dinosaurs. Parasaurophus is not a dino that I like especially but the Battat figure is quite nice. It makes me think that we need to start a good page about all the wonderful legacy of Dan LoRusso in this matter. :)

Thanks.  It's very sad that some of the two best dinosaur lines have been discontinued, especially since Dan LoRusso is in Heaven and no longer with us.  I think starting a page about him is a wonderful idea.

I have a few more animals I'd like to post.  These are the Safari Inostrancevia, the Bullyland Pike, The Schleich Blue Marlin, and the Safari Kaprosuchus.

Yes, Dan LoRusso will definitively have a page on Toy Animal Wiki and Doug Watson, the sculptor of these brilliant kaprosuchus and inostrancevia will also have a page on Toy Animal Wiki. I think it is very important for us collectors to know who is behind these figures that give us a lot of joy and a Wiki, that is usually an encyclopedic project, won't be complet without mentioning these Artists. Fortunately Doug is quite alive and providing us every year prehistoric and wild creatures for Safari lines. I hope Doug keeps sculpting for us for a long time and delaying his retirement projects. Laughing
Other two figures are also very interesting and I didn't mind having them either. Laughing

Thanks for the compliments!  The Inostrancevia is sort of a reptilian version of a tiger or bear.  While they're not directly related to mammal ancestry, their clade, the Synapsids, are.

It's great to know the names of these sculptors, no doubt about it.  Like you, I wish we could give them all the credit they deserve.  Mr. Watson has certainly done a fantastic job.  It sounds like he may be the one directly responsible for creating most of my favorite Safari figures.

I have a few more figures to post.  They are the Battat/Terra Dacentrurus, the Battat/Terra Carnotaurus, the Bullyland Andrewsarchus, the Safari/Monterey Bay Tiger Shark, and the Safari/Monterey Bay Great White.  The last one is actually one of the very first in my collection.  I've had her since I was 10.

Great models again ! Very Happy
The Great white must be very special for you, - funny enough the Tiger shark was one of my first fish models, and the Andrew one of my first prehistoric mammals other than Schleich Laughing

Thanks for the compliments!

Next I'd like to post several fish I got from Fauna Figures.  These are all from the Replica Toy Fish line, and they are all favorite species of mine I never knew existed in toy form until recently.  They are the mini Longnose Gar, Shovelnose Sturgeon, Tiger Muskellunge, and Alligator Gar.

Thank you all for the compliments!

I've decided to post my herd of prehistoric mammals next.  Keep in mind it's a very small herd since these are essentially all I've got, but the real animals still interest me very much.  They are the CollectA Paraceratherium, and the Wild Safari Megatherium, Smilodon, and Andrewsarchus.

Thanks!  Actually, I just now found quite a few Safari mammals available on ebay, including many species I don't have.  You should check it out if you're interested.

Sorry to double post, but I wanted to add my 2016 Christmas finds.

The first one is a figure I always wanted, the Safari German Shepherd with puppies
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The second is the new Safari Giganotosaurus (aka, the carnivorous zebra).  I ended up liking him a lot better than I originally did, and he goes really well with my other dinosaurs.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The last two are some PNSO minis, the Proceratosaurus and the little Amargasaurus.  The latter makes a great baby for the Carnegie version, or at least I think so.
