That was my first thought also, but it seems that the do hold the front flippers like that when swimming

One can never have too many platypi! He'll keep semi-evil scientists away! :)

As an Australian, who has seen platypus in zoos many times, and in the wild as well, the platypus' front legs do look a bit odd. I assume the model is swimming, and has been modelled from a photo if not from real life, so perhaps it is realistic, even if the pose looks a little strange. Good models of Australian animals are hard to find (most of the koala models I've seen are a bit dodgy, even laughable (Schleich: koalas are naturally cute, you don't have to load them up with an extra helping of cute!), and the kangaroos not much better - though in recent times some better ones have been appearing). I will certainly buy this model because in the grand scheme of things, they've made a great effort, and I'll get used to the funny feet.
