| I recently obtained some very well sculpted proboscidean models from a new company called Eofauna. In my opinion these are the most anatomically correct elephant models ever released. They are 1:48 scale, come with a base and are packed in a collector foam lined box. The models are expensive but are high quality replicas. All three living elephant species are represented including an African Forest elephant...and all to scale with each other. The set also includes a mastodon, deinotherium and mammoth. Ah naturally, they are made with 3D techniques :) Yes the sculptor makes a 3D model as a guide to work out proportions, pose etc but then he hand sculpts the models in sculpey, the traditional way. Then they are moulded, cast in resin then hand painted. |

| They're beautiful, congrats Unfortunately, the price of only 1 of them is almost my yearly budget for animal replicas... _________________ Robert

| They are all absolutely gorgeous sculptures. And the paintjob is just as amazing. And I totally love those beautiful black stands they all have. It makes them look so good together.
Wow! |

| Harriet, widukind, SUSANNE, skysthelimit, stef1000, scot(t), Ana: thank you all for your comments
Kikimalou: Thanks for posting the site link
Roger: I agree with you also, I was not happy with the current models from other brands so I decided to invest in these models sine I only collect elephants and have a very critical eye when purchasing them.
Bloodrayne: Yes I think the glossy black stands add a lot to the look of the models.
Pege: thank you for your compliments
I agree with all of you that the prices are very high for such small models though the quality is outstanding. From what I found out there is only one sculptor who makes the models, then moulds them himself and then his friend paints them. This is a small scale production so unfortunately they can't mass produce the items and have lower prices. Hopefully the prices will be lower int he future.

| I am totally speechless - never seen anything like it in my life (in terms of ready to buy models).
Can you please take a photo of the Indian and African Elephant models alongside some Schleich animals such as the Giraffe and Zebra and an existing elephant so we can see the differences in size? I am useless with nubmer and so 1:48 doesnt mean much to me.
Secondly are all the models fixed to the base or removeable?
thanks Numaan |

| Melekh:Yes good points, they remind me of nicely sculpted pieces you would find at the natural history museum....though I do wish they were a bit larger. Numaan, Sergey: I don't have giraffe or zebras but here is a picture of the Eofauna models next to some Schleich elephants. They are significantly smaller but far superior in sculpting, this is apparent when you compare the models side by side. The Schleich African in particular has a lot of anatomical errors in the sculpting. The models originally have metal rods stuck into two feet and are glued down. I specifically asked that my whole set not be glued to the base so I can take them off if I desire. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |
