Alphabetical rabbit breeds

Many companies  make rabbits but few make really specific breeds.I have listed here the known breeds and also what I would consider to be breeds based research and my experience as I used to keep and breed rabbits when I was younger.
Angora

Chestnut brown of Lorraine-I have chosen this breed as the maker is Papo and this model matches this breed the most.

Dwarf lop/Holland lop

English/English spot-The rabbit with the least markings are called Charlies as many have little Charlie Chaplin moustaches.

Flemish Giant-this breed has a number of colours in many countries but only one colour -steel grey-in the UK

French lop-I have again picked this breed as matching the models the most.Some of the models have mixed characteristics of the French and English lop breeds.The best overall models of this breed are the Kaiyodo

Giant Papillon-a large French breed similar in colouring to the smaller English

Netherland Dwarf

New Zealand White

Rex-this is the Castor which is the original colour but there are many colours available now

Thuringer-as this is a Bullyland model I have picked this German breed as it matches the shape and colouring

All others-some of these models are distinctly hare like!!

Great thread, I'm also a rabbit fan although I haven't got one at the moment.
I think the Papo angora is an incredible sculpt; the way they textured the fluff, the pose, everything. I really love the Kaiyodo rabbits, too, they capture each breed so well - from the ones you've got there, I've had dutch, french lop, nethys, and the absolute best rabbits there are, mini rex (my three were castor, opal, and most recently a harlequin charlie who ended up being called Charlie cos nothing else would stick when the colour comes with a name built in )

Thank you George-good to hear form a fellow rabbit lover.I would love some rabbits but at present I don't have space,but hopefully in the future.I had Black/tans,Netherlands,Dwarf lops and Cashmere Lops and a Californian.The best rabbit i ever had was my first one-he was a English type rabbit and lived free range in our garden and was not scared of anything.We had 2 dogs st the time and they would not go near him as he wouldn't walk away from them.He attacked any cats that came into the garden but he was very gentle with the guinea pigs I had at the time.He lived to be 7yrs old but eventually had to go to the vets when he went off his hind legs completely and I had to say goodbye

Wonderful topic! I have been working on an updated website for my collection and classifying everything I have by breed gets tricky at times. I have lots of rabbits so this actually helps out a ton!

I'm so glad that its of help.As you say sometimes breeds can be difficult to ascertain so I have tried to be as precise as I can.

I had a Dutch who lived almost free range - he had a hutch, but the door was always left propped open in good weather, so he put himself in and out as he wanted. He had maloccluded teeth and after a couple of trims which he did NOT co-operate with kindly, the vet suggested taking them out to save on stress. This meant he had to have his veg chopped up small, but it didn't affect his health or lifespan in the slightest - he lived til 11!

As I said, my mini rexes have been the best of all pets. I had them one at a time, living as house rabbits (with the garden in summer, rather than 100% indoor only - I'm a very outdoors person so they spent a lot of time popping in and out with me). I don't know if it's the breed, or the upbringing cos I had them with me so much as they were growing up, but I found them to be the most affectionate, clever, playful, and laid-back best mates you could imagine, rabbits which behaved more like like loyal and loving little dogs.

The only reason I'm rabbitless is cos the pandemic hit not long after my last one died, and even during the not-actually-lockdown periods when we've been allowed to travel away from home, I haven't been socialising or mixing at all, so it hasn't been safe or wise to be going round any strangers' houses to choose and buy a bunny.

Very useful topic, Taylor! As a collector of foxes, I should be more confortable with rabbit breeds but it is not a subject I'm confortable with. I will use this topic as a guide when editing on TAW.

11yrs is a superb age for a rabbit to get to!! Yes,I know the frustration of the pandemic and trying to acquire pets.

Wonderful rabbits. I didn't realise Flemish giants could only be steel grey in the UK. Were the foxes not interested in your free-range rabbit or are there no foxes in your area?

Wonderful rabbits collection!

Love seeing all these beautiful models and also learned some things about rabbit breeds. I worked with a Flemish giant and a Holland lop (until they were stolen from the zoo!). Both were really intelligent and were being trained for all kinds of behavior, though the lop was a bit of a cantankerous old man. Wonderful little guys!

Jill-so sorry to hear about your beautiful rabbits.I think people sometimes think that rabbits aren't very trainable but this is not the case!
Roger-I grew up in Ireland and lived in the suburbs and we didn't have urban foxes that are common in UK cities,foxes were strictly rural animals.It may have changed now as many of the cities in Ireland have expanded.

Oh neat. I have a Kaiyodo Pet Series rabbit to represent a 'domestic rabbit' in my collection, but it's neat seeing other breeds. When I was in the FFA in high school I bred a Holland lop hahaha

Yes,that's a nice example of a Netherland Dwarf-nice short ears and chunky head.They come in many colours.
Interesting selection of models-the Rex rabbit is especially nice and the animal marked as a Japanese Quail is not one of those!its a really interesting model of a breed of chicken called a Rumpless Game-quite and unusual model.

Yes, they are very common in some UK cities. When we lived in Glasgow, at some point we had 5 fox cubs in our (very small) garden!

Thank you for the identification of these breeds :) As species collector, I only have one figure to represent the domestic rabbit.
However, always when I purchase animals, I try to search for rabbits and hares, too. Why? Because my Dad has a rabbit collection. As he owns rabbits since his childhood, he started to add figures of this animal, too. As I´m the "collector" of our family, I´m always searching for him some more figures :)
