Capsule Q Museum Fortune Owl Collection n°2 by kikimalou

Here are some pics of the Capsule Q Museum Fortune Owl second set. Produced in december 2015 by Kaiyodo, the set contains a Barn owl (again), a pair of Ural owl chicks, and three first time ever: A Burrowing owl, a Striped owl and a Spectacled owl.  

The Barn owl (Tyto alba) is one of the most widespread of all birds. it is found almost everywhere in the world except polar and desert regions, Asia north of the Himalayas, most of Indonesia and some Pacific islands.
There is a considerable variation between the sizes and colour of the approximately 28 subspecies but most are between 33 and 39 cm (13 and 15 in) in length with wingspans ranging from 80 to 95 cm (31 to 37 in).
Barn owls specialise in hunting animals on the ground and nearly all of their food consists of small mammals which they locate by sound, their hearing being very acute.

Barn owl was in the first set. This time, it is a white Barn owl with closed eyes. Kaiyodo used the same body but add a different head and of course a different painting.

The Burrowing owl (Athene cunicularia) is a small, long-legged owl found throughout open landscapes of North and South America. They nest and roost in burrows, such as those excavated by prairie dogs. Unlike most owls, Burrowing Owls are often active during the day, although they tend to avoid the midday heat. But like many other kinds of owls, they do most of their hunting from dusk until dawn, when they can use their night vision and hearing to their advantage. Living in open grasslands as opposed to the forest, the burrowing owl has developed longer legs, which enables it to sprint as well as fly when hunting.

The Spectacled owl (Pulsatrix perspicillata), is a large owl native to the neotropics. It is a resident breeder in forests from southern Mexico and Trinidad, through Central America, south to southern Brazil, Paraguay and northwestern Argentina. Itis primarily a bird of tropical rain forests, being found mostly in areas where dense, old-growth forest is profuse.

This species is largely nocturnal, starting activity right around the time of last light at dusk and usually being back on their roosts for the day around first light. It is a solitary, unsocial bird, usually roosting singly each day and only peaceable associating with others of their own species for reproductive purposes.
The spectacled owl can range from 41 to 52.3 cm (16.1 to 20.6 in) in length. It is typically the largest and most dominant owl in its range, with the larger great horned owl (Bubo virginianus) rarely venturing into true rainforest habitats.

The Striped owl (Pseudoscops clamator) is a medium-sized owl with large ear tufts and a brownish-white facial disk rimmed with black. Its beak is black, and it has cinnamon-colored eyes. It is native to South America and parts of Central America. It uses a variety of habitats, including riparian woodlands, marshes, savannahs, grassy open areas, and tropical rainforests.

Its systematic placement is not resolved. Different authorities place it in Asio, in Pseudoscops together with the Jamaican owl, or more rarely into the monotypic genus Rhinoptynx.

The Ural owl (Strix uralensis) is a medium-sized nocturnal owl, smaller than the great grey owl, and much larger than the tawny owl, which it superficially resembles. Distinguishing features apart from the size are the pale, buffish grey-brown plumage, with copious dark brown streaking on the back, back of the head and underparts. It has a round head with plain buffish-grey facial discs, orange-yellow bill and small black eye.

The Ural owl has an extended distribution area in Europe and Asia, from Sakhalin, Japan and Korea in the east to Scandinavia in the west. The northern border is at approximately 65 degrees north latitude, and the southern border follows the southern delimitation of the taiga. There are relict populations in the mountains of central Europe.

It nests in hollow tree trunks, occasionally in old raptor nests, and increasingly in nestboxes. It normally lays two to four eggs, which hatch after 27–34 days. The young leave the nest after about four weeks, but will not fly until about six weeks old.

Kaiyodo already made two Ural owls, one in the Chocoeeg series for Furuta (two variations) and, more recently, in the first CapsuleQ Fortune owls set.

This time the Japanese company provide us with a pair of chicks.

I didn't realise the new barn owl is a white variation! I've never heard of white barn owls before, so I checked quickly and found this leucistic beauty:

I am not exactly from Pokemon generation but I like very much these owl sets.
Seriously, they're realistically rendered, owls are wonderful animals and your first pic shows how beautiful they work together.
The Lego brick shows that they have a small but fair size and other pictures shows the great level of detail.
Those are solide contrarily to the traditional hollow Choco Egg figures, aren't they? And is their built robuste? I am thinking in these legs of the burrowing owl, do they stand firmly?

I think these owls are realistic enough even if I would prefer models in one piece.  At least, these ones aren't puzzles.

Sincerely, Kaiyodo made more detailed animals in the past but what I like the most is the painting, I'm always amazed to see how they make so efficient "Mass production" paintings  It is a big part of the "realistic" touch of these toys.

Japanese and Occidental markets are also very different, I can't imagine another brand making 8 different owl species in two years.

Burrowing owl stands firmly on its legs , maybe we should give Kaiyodo phone numbers to the Rebor team?

You surely have seen Pokemons somewhere already.
I was not exactly satirizing but the somewhat robotic style of the barn owl made me think in these characters.

Noctowl (Nocturnal + owl) is clearly owl inspired and is an evolution of Hoothoot
Pikachu is the best known character of this crazy Japanese anime.

Hahah, REBOR is coming under fire, considering the amount of money we have to pay, they surely should solve this deficiency. Surely Kaiyodo has a lot to learn to others about manufacturing and diversity.

No, I don't know anything about Pokemon, I like to watch television programs for kids but not yet Pokemon. I only knew Pikachu from local shops, I remember seeing several toys about that strange thing and my niece explained me what it was. Others I've found googling!
