My second African shelf display Empty
PostSubject: My second African shelf display   My second African shelf display EmptyMon 18 Oct 2010 - 21:59

As I told in [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], I’ve dismantled my “Euro-America” display that had delighted my eyes for more than 3 years. But the cabinet didn’t remain unoccupied – in a few days after setting up my “New World” display, I turned the empty cabinet into my second “Africa”.
To the moment the new “Africa” isn’t finished and not filled with all the animals I want. But I’d like to share step-by-step pictures of its initial creation.

First, I took down the upper (smaller) shelf and put it on the lower one. The results: 1) now there’s enough space for Schleich acacia; 2) there’s a gap clearance at the back wall of the cabinet which I will use for planting some greenery.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The second step – adding a water pool. I use blue semi-transparent garbage bag for this purpose:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Now let’s add some greenery at the background and a juniper “pedestal” to mark the waterside:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Pebbles and another piece of wood complete the river bank from the other side:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Now everything’s ready to accommodate the animals.

And here are the first inhabitants of my new Africa (more to come soon):

The croc is obviously enjoying his new spacious home:

Nice display and also realized the depth & the height of your cabinet is quite huge. Is it customized cabinet? Or the last picture is wonderful and also surprised Fujifilm Finepix F10 to perform that good.

Very nice! A pedagogic tread!!!
The water is too blue for a pond but don't worry because rhinos have a very low vision!
What is this crock thinking about?

thanks for appreciation, friends! But the thing is I wanted to set up a very simple but good-looking display to accomodate my acacia and the surplus of my African animals. The key task here was to spend as less time and efforts as possible :)

No, Ken, it is not customized - it's an usual cabinet, and very old one indeed.
And Finepix F10 is usually doing well when it comes to shooting figures, you're right.

I like blue water too but I don't know if I like the taste of a rhino!!!
Kiryl, I know that trees and animals you're using are very easily identifiable by the most part of the collectors but will be nice if you put the name of them!!! More pedagogic for who wants to make a display like yours!

What do you mean? The only identifiable tree is Schleich Acacia. The others are hand-made of artificial greenery that is sold in markets.

I'm glad you like it. As to the step-by-step explanation - I wonder, if someone usus similar approach? (like Sergey - we do many things in a similar way when it comes to wildlife displays :))

Well, i use the Schleich trees, and some artificial aquatic plants too(for fish-tanks), although they are plants that grow on land most of the times, like ferns, and that is why i choose them.
But at the moment they are on top of one of my vitrines, as i don't have enough room to display everything like i want to.... Laughing
But when everything is moved to another room, and all of the vitrines are in order, then i will make some pics, but this will take some time i am afraid... Rolling Eyes

Yeah, some of the plants for aquariums look good in displays. Though, I don't use them cause such plants tend to be too expensive in my city, while there are many China-made artificial plants that are cheaper and more "flexible"..

Those artificial aquatic plants are made in China too, and quit bendable too, and they did cost me 2,50 euro on average... :)

PostSubject: Renovation of my ‘Africa’ cabinet display   My second African shelf display EmptySat 19 Nov 2011 - 21:12

Thirteen months have passed since I set up my second African display located in a cabinet. It has been updated with new animals and plants since then and I’d like to share some pics of how it looks now.
General view in horizontal plane – this is how my daughter sees this display from her bed (I removed glass doors while taking pics):

“Eastern” part of the display is adorned with CollectA cycad tree:

My newcomer Mojo lion has waded across a river…
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

..and met a lioness with cub that belong to another pride (Wink):

Acacia canopy has accommodated Bullyland black vulture and Schleich chimpanzees:

SUSANNE wrote:

That was my aim - to make at least one display that is not overcrowded with animals. At this stage I'm succeeding, but with more African animals to come I'm afraid this display will gradually transform into a "dry season watering site" scene... scratch : )

Very Happy Actually, the other-pride lioness resides in another shelf display - she was only passing by when I was taking these pics... Wink
