As everyone is well aware I am sure, Amazon specifically has been flooded with Asian based brands sprouting up out of no where. So far, Toymany seems to be the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] most successful. But here is another one to join Eyscota on my radar: Sienon.

This is set is not the best quality in paint or finish, and the sculpts leave a bit to be desired once seen in hand... but there is a lot of potential here. I am curious to see if anything comes of them further!

The Sphynx seems to be a miniaturized version of a larger pair I obtained a few months ago. Again, I will make some comparison photos tomorrow and show them on forum.

Thanks, it really confirms the catalogue was wrong, the number 6 of the other set is a Grizzly and the number 6 was missing in this set.
Now it is only missing the moose which might be #1 that is the left number.

Collecta is releasing a Holsteiner stallion, and although he is not the same breed, he could probably pass for the breed you have listed above. Schleich has also made an Oldenburg stallion, who isn't quite as nice, but could probably work as well. I would say that your best bet at finding a model that could represent this breed would be the Collecta Warmblood stallion, as he does not have a specific breed associated with him. He might be a bit heavy compared to the pictures of the breed, but he could work. Still, my [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] choice would be the soon to be released Holsteiner from Collecta.

I'm glad to see Kiki and @Duck-Anch-Amun think "Animal" is suggestive enough to work as "Identified as" without the need of using the latter one.
On the given example of the former CollectA deer, the use of the link to the "marketed as" field was not my personal choice. I find it confusing too. It was decided to include the link after a forum discussion because "Red deer" is the page a collector would look for it.
I like the 3 points Blaine mentions and they show what I mean and I think the "marketed as" is enough to cover all 3.
Though, I insist we should use whether "marketed as" or "marked" according to the way we obtain the information.
Basically it is the same field, we don't need to use both. Often we don't know how a figure is marketed and it is important to know the information was obtained because the figure is marked like that.
Rarely, some figures are also marketed differently from what they are marked.
The famous Nayab Maned Wolf (extralarge) shows the difference, I think telling it is marketed as a (Myers Asparagus) is quite inaccurate, though, it is interesting and important to help identifying the model to mention it is marked "Myers Asparagus".

For Blaine's example #1 we have the Papo King cobra.
It is marketed as a "King cobra" and the hood shape marking correspond to an Indian cobra. So, it is identified as an Indian cobra.
Animal: Indian cobra
Marketed as: King cobra
This is enough to me in terms of fields, . A note should be added.

For Blaine's #2:
We have Papo (current) Fox.
It is just marketed as a "Fox"
Though, it is unequivocally a red fox.
Our identification is not because Papo is an European company. The model is unambiguous and despite the fact the name fox is generic, we also know that in this hobby, when a figure is just marketed as a fox, it is much likely a red fox. It is one of the reasons why I've been suggesting for a long time that we should identify a model to a very comon species level when it is applicable and there's no evidences it is not the commonest species. Fox to red fox, Hedgehog to common hedgehog, hippopotamus to common hippopotamus, zebra to plains zebra, etc.
Animal: Red fox
Marketed: Fox
It is enough to me, no note needed.

For Blaine's #3.
We have the Papo ladybird. Ladybird is the common name for family Coccinellidae, thus, it covers multiple species.
As it is red with 7 spots and Papo is an European brand, it is relatively evident it is a Seven-spot ladybird which is the commonest species at least in Europe.
Animal: Seven-spot ladybird
Marketed as: Ladybird
It is again enough for me. A little note might help.

I would like to add a 4th issue. It is when the figure is not marked and we have no idea how it was marketed.
Nayab set of 36 assorted small wild animals is a very good example.
The page starts with an aardvark, there's no doubts about the species even if it is not known how it is marketed.
Though, there's also the Jaguarundi, it is surely a very optimistic identification, I accept it and it might support Roger's idea of using the field "Marketed as" "unknown" to suggest to a visitor it is clearly a community identification.
I know this figure was sold on Wild Republic Wildepedia set for their North American animals. Are you sure it was supposed to be sold as a jaguarundi? Much likely it intended to represent a black jaguar.
However, let me show you how the same solution results so different for two figures of the same set.
Animal: Aardvark
Marketed as: Unknown

Animal: Jaguarundi
Marketed as: Unknown

Both are fine to me but this mention sounds quite useless for the aardvark figure but I also don't know where is the border between an easily identifiable figure and a very ambiguous figure. If it serves to keep consistency, it is fine.

When we know how a figure is marked but we don't know how it was marketed and I know it sounds the same to most of you, we should use "Marked" instead. It is just my opinion.
Let's take the example of the XL Nayab genet.
Animal: Common gennet
Marked: Viverricula indica
This is the scientific name of the Small Indian civet. Laughing

Actually, during my editing job, I've been considering these aspects. I've used as always as it was possible, the marketed name for the name of the page. It allows someone finding it easily when Googling. It also tells how it is marketed even if it is not clear at first.
I've been adding notes, sometimes whether using wiki code or not, when something is ambiguous.
i also have used often on series page introductory text, mentions when the identifications are conjectural or community based. For set pages, not necesarily to each individual figure.

Concluding, I find the "Marketed as" a useful field as long as it is not mandatory because it is useless for many figures.
Though, I don't think @Tiermann suggestion to change the guidelines is the most adjusted.
I would prefer to keep Animal as it is now, with our identifications and linking to the corresponding animal page.
The "Marketed as" as a complement to the Animal field when needed and without any link.
Explaining text is always useful but the function of these fields should be to reduce the needing of extra text. Though, it is sometimes unavoidable.
I don't think we need additional text (note) to explain why we identify a red fox which is marketed as a fox.
Though, it might be important to the king cobra being identified as an Indian cobra or the ladybird as a 7-spot one.

Wow Paige, so many beautiful figures in 2022! There are so many great ones, but the oarfish has to be my favorite I love you

I am so thankful this year with my collection. I received many models I absolutely loved, it was very hard not to pick everything.

But I do have so highlights that I am so grateful to have, here they are cheers

Topics tagged under 1 on STS Forum 2022_h12

1.) Starting off with Safari's beautiful Virginia opossum! I wanted this figure for a long time, and I was so happy to finally find one. I just love the babies clinging on to the mother's back. Safari has so many gems making them my favorite brand easily.

2.) A repaint my friend did for me of Southlands Replicas brumby stallion. He is painted to look like Spirit from one of my favorite childhood movies. I just love the paintwork on him, she did an excellent job  I love you

3.) I just adore Anna's figures... But I wasn't on STS when she was making her wild life figures, so I wasn't able to get any. I was so happy to get the beautiful bongo from a forum member. I got her takin too and gifted it to my friend. I love this figure so much I feel honored to own it!

4.) The poor lesser kudu I wanted for a few years but he was always out of stock on Safari's website when I was making an order. I didn't realize when he retired and I couldn't find him anywhere.. AnimalKingdoms in New Zealand was so kind to ship me one that they still had in stock! A beautiful antelope, one of Safari's best in my opinion.

5.) I love Signatus Studios models, this vulture was a new species for me and I just love the details on it!

6.) The waterbuck was another beautiful model by Signatus Studios.. I love how she was made to go with CollectA's male. I might have to get the baby now  Laughing

7.) Thanks to Paige I was able to find the last Southlands Replicas figure I needed! The beautiful Thylacine is probably my favorite of the series, I love it so much  I love you

8.) Thanks to one of Loon's sales I was able to get another Nature Technicolor figure. I only have a few figures from this brand, but I am so impressed by it. I believe it is one of the most realistic/detailed figures I own. Such a beautiful cephalopod!

Topics tagged under 1 on STS Forum 2022_h13

9.) From Whitelightningwolf, a gorgeous leafy seadragon!! Seadragons are some of my absolute favorite fish, I have such fond memories of seeing them at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Another fantastic nature technicolor figure that just nails the detail of the real thing.

10.) Probably tied as my favorite addition in my collection this year, Safari's gorgeous and tiny queen triggerfish. This was a very sentimental model that I had lost when I was little, and I've been looking for another for years. Finding the whole set was a dream come true and I was so happy to have the triggerfish back in my collection along with the other figures in new condition.  I love you

11.) Marine iguanas are one of my favorite reptiles, they have always fascinated me. I loved the Play Visions model, but I wasn't satisfied with the paintwork. My friend recently repainted one for me and I just love it!! She did an amazing job and I think the paintwork really shows off the sculpt.

12-14.) 3 salamanders from Safari's amazing Tennessee Aquarium set.. I just adore these figures and I was so happy to find 3 more. I just need to find the elusive common mudpuppy to complete the set.

15.) I'm a huge fan of Safari's Incredible Creatures line, their reptiles especially. I was so happy to find the Parson's chameleon! This model is just so unique and I love it so much. Its large size and beautiful colors make it a joy to look at.

Topics tagged under 1 on STS Forum 2022_h15

16.) I'm really into dinosaurs, especially those from Jurassic Park. The 3rd movie was always my favorite when I was little and spinosaurus is my favorite dinosaur. I was so happy when Nanmu Studios announced they were making a 2.0 version. Its so stunningly realistic and a great representation of the movie version!

17.) Another figure from Nanmu, the buck from the Lost World. The detail on this guy is incredible and he was probably the most fun to photograph this year in the woods.

18.) And wrapping it up with my #1 figure of the year (tied with the triggerfish) the Kaiyodo blue whale!  cheers I wanted this figure for years and years. But I never had the money for it when I was younger and I couldn't justify the price when I was older. I finally decided I would get it this Spring, thanks to help from Brett. My grandparents made it a graduation gift from college and I was so grateful and excited to have this huge whale in my collection. Its only right that the biggest figure I own is the blue whale  Laughing

It was an amazing year and I am ever so grateful and appreciative of the dedicated members on this forum that are always eager to help out. I have found many figures I was searching for and I have discovered numerous new brands. I can't wait to see what this year brings!!

This model looks absolutely great to me. Obviously there's some room for little improvements but everything with the word slightly. A slightly longer body, a slightly smaller head and a slightly narrower tail. Elephants are trumpeters but they are also accordionists. When their legs get close to each other during their walk, their bodies look really short. When comparing with the Britains models, this figure seems to have a more correct dropping back and generally it looks a more mature animal. I am not sure I'd love to see new dentition to turn it into a bull. I think we were informed by the brand it was a female.
Now I am curious to see what's better than that. Probably the new Mojö Fun African elephant for [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and a vintage bull for [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. I always love the Horse competition. Mongolian is a predictable and perfect winner.
I was not sure how the draft with cat would performe but this winner was relatively predictable.
My vote went to the Schleich Sorraia, not because it is better than the Mongolian, just a less known breed, also far less iconic and it is from my country what was decisive to my choice. Though, I am glad the Mongolian won and I want so much one in my collection. It is currently the horse #1 in my wish list.

Next batch (two left).
Topics tagged under 1 on STS Forum 20220103_212444
This toucan (alongside the hawk for a later post) have marked the near completion if this AAA set for me! All I need to find is the green toucan. These models are large and difficult to display because of it, but are very artistically done and I really enjoy them as a set.

This Papo polar bear makes the list simoly because I think it is the #1 bear on the market. Everything about it is so well done and its such a handsome model. Papo outdid themselves on this one!

The Bullyland blue gnu was a reservation from our dear Yvette just before the pandemic. With the fallout of that event we weren't able to complete the sale until well over a year later, but so kindly she held onto these items for me! And boy was it worth it. A simple looking figure it stands out in small detail and that unique color. Another model I didn't know if I would ever have in hand.

The Funrise pronghorn was another model I didn't realize existed until it was offered to me by mitsukuni. Not the most detailed model and for some reason it has a short mane down its neck, but with this species being so uncommon in toy form I had to have one. Thanks!

The frilled shark was hunted down in the two Discovery toy sets. Again, not the best out there but while it is my favorite shark species and the only one that was larger in scale I needed to have him. May be a repaint option someday, who knows.

The Arapaima by Safari is another favorite species. Done so well for how small it is, it is also a companion for my Replica Toy Fish model. Arguably the best item in this toob for me.

Lastly, a joy city bamboo lemur from teardrop/Maria. Another gift and a very special one for sure! Such a cute little fuzzy thing, and another model I didn't think I would ever own.

Thanks Jolie and Lilias! I would LOVE to hear about your fun new additions from the past year!

Another batch of fun.
Topics tagged under 1 on STS Forum 20220103-101618

These cape buffalo calves (forget the actual brand) were exciting as only one major brand calf has ever been released! I customized a domestic calf years ago, but thanks to our friend Nando my herd's reproductivity was doubled. Wink

The Schleich pinto is a model I have an original friend for and this one is the "collector's quality" version. This was one of my favorite models growing up and I am afraid I played quite a lot with him and he has lost a lot of paint. This new one was a thrift find and in much better condition.

The ever so controversial Safari maned wolf... I am one of few proponents for this model. Its not perfect, but I struggle with the CollectA model for different but somehow also similar critiques. I quite like this one's face, I think it is the posture and some paint work that is such a turn off for many. But for my canine collection it was a welcome addition!

The jumping spider was a recent addition from Blaine. I have never been a insect fan in real life or collecting, but I have in recent years matured and come to realize the great importance of these animals. And surprisingly, as much as I still don't really enjoy being around creepy crawlies I have accepted a few plastic ones (trying not to go wild with this category). Jumping spiders have always been fascinating for me so this model especially was welcome!

The Noah's pals golden jackals were a surprise offer by one of our old forum friends SeanieP. Much smaller than I thought but quite nice especially given their size! Being a canine enthusiast I welcome any new species to my collection so these were fun simply because they were new. :)

And lastly, the strap toothed whale. Ever since I saw the Happy Kin models there were several I felt were simply must haves. This whale for me was #1. There were some sites but I didn't feel comfortable ordering from them. Then I was offered one by 2 different forum members! I accepted both and gave one as a gift to another forum member who is ocean loving. So thank you Taylor and Kostas for your help with these!

Thank you Taylor, Jolie, Roger, and Lilias! It has been a ling project to clean and document each one.  [You must be [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to see this image.] Just a few more groups to go!

Roger, that is an old Schleich Mini marmot (I think?...).

Now some of my historical figures. These were childhood holy grails for me as they were a tad costly (for the time) and thus were only Christmas gifts if at all... I mostly loved the animals involved in these sets. Once I complete my Schleich animal collection I hope to complete these!

My American West models *wagon horses were included in my horse category* [You must be [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to see this image.]

Knights are still some of my very favorites!!!

And then a few people. The shepherd is my [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] favorite, followex by my pig farmer, sled, and national park ranger.

And tomorrow is the very last group! I may or may not get display shots of these (most of these are in storage now, only a few are on wall hanging displays). I will try to share display overviews (as requested by Kiki, after Christmas when I should be recovered from my Covid booster)

(Also, not sure if these guys count as minatures/collectables but they are quite small, so they kind of are. If I posted on the wrong board, let me know and I'll try change it.)
(I'm also hoping to make even smaller ones at some point)

So as some of you know I've been making crochet Plush animals, but lately I've finally succeeded with a much smaller pattern. Minis, in general are really hard as they are tricky to stuff and then detail, and these ones take as long as the bigger ones to assemble!
They're made from regular yarn at the moment, though one day I'll try even smaller minis with crochet string.
I absolutely love them though, and have been trying extra hard to get them as realistic as possible.
Shaded with acrylics, pastels, alcohol and water markers, and the noses are made from polymer clay (and are only 6mm long!)
I've had so much fun working on them.

I've just got the Pug and a few mugshots of the Bulldog I've just finished and am working on a white tiger cub so I'll do a photoshoot of them soon too. I'm thinking of making some as sets (either as pairs), or with accessories like a playset for kids (and will have some more child friendly noses). I think the photography is my favourite part, making them look real but tiny at the same time.

Crochet Big Cat Cubs

White Tiger Cub
I had so much fun making this one, it was actually a gift for a family member. So cute!

If I'm honest I love these guys so much I don't think I'll be able to part with these two. But I'll certainly make more. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

And finally, with the BEAUTYofBEASTS snow leopard.
Topics tagged under 1 on STS Forum Img-9816

For Mojo's figure I was a bit disappointed with the size, as it is much larger than my other figures. It is exactly the same size as the Vanishing Wild snow leopard (I would assume the same size as the male as well but I don't have that figure). The paint job isn't the best in my opinion but I do really love the pose. I'm sure some talented people on the wiki could do amazing repaints of this figure. I do however place this figure at about my 4th favorite. The BEAUTYofBEASTS snow leopard easily takes #1 for me but in regards to the major brands I still like Papo's the most, even if I do have some issues with it. The CollectA cubs I absolutely adore, just not a fan of the sculpt and paint on the adult, or its downward face. That being said this is still a wonderful model, I am just not sure why it is so large. I don't have too many mojo figures but all of mine seem to be in scale with other brands. Maybe they are increasing sizes like CollectA  scratch

Next up is the Smilodon:

I was pleasantly surprised with this model. I love the sculpt and I think they did a great job on the face and fangs. I admit I don't know a whole lot about smilodons or their anatomy, but I think this sculpt looks pretty good. I'm not a huge fan of spots on smilodons, I like plain/ stripes better, but I think this model looks quite good with them. In terms of size, I'm again not a huge fan, although smilodon figures tend to size rather large from what I've seen. I don't have the Papo ones yet but I'm pretty sure they are around the same size as the CollectA and now this Mojo one. I will be purchasing those when they release their young smilodon which I'm SUPER excited for. I am also very interested in purchasing Rebor's soon to release smilodon with an interchangeable head  Laughing Safari's smilodons are by far my favorite out of the bunch though. I just love their paint jobs and size. Regardless of scientific accuracy I think they are wonderfully sculpted and painted models, and I can't wait to get an older sibling for my cub!

NAYAB has been always a controversial brand. From knock-offs to what we suppose to be their original designs, this brand is often found in discussions on forum.
It is also believed Nayab produce figures to other brands, a good example is the Wild Republic Polybags. I am skeptical about everything related with Nayab. The Realistic Animal series are known for a long time as Delprado models, I was told with official confirmation that the animal themed sets, like the wild dogs, deers, etc. are from a manufacturer called Toy-Mate, etc., etc.
Whatever they are, they will always be known as Nayab among us.It is also hard to tell how many anteaters were released. I have these two, a large and a small. There is also an Extralarge but I am not sure a mini exists.

These models were probably released during the first years of this century, here are both together, important to notice that the larger figure is hollow.
Actually, it was one of my first anteater figures, a gift from a very kind member, inactive for a long time, which username is [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

[You must be [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to see this image.]

Large model is 12 cm long, quite compatible with major brands.
The small model is 7 cm long, the same size as some 1:32 scale vintage figures.
Here a comparison with the Hong Kong [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] model and the Hausser Elastolin 54mm  figure.
I am convinced the Hong Kong figure is more recent than the other mould presented as [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], maybe from 1980's, so I'd say it is a predecessor of the Nayab small model.

Hong Kong marked animals ploriferated during 1970's. Often inspired in models from known brands. It is not easy to tell what they are in fact, this kind of figures are regularly debated onf forum but it is not easy to sort them in brands or manufacturers. So, we just know them as Hong Kong figures.
I have these three, if anyone knows anything about these figures, please let me know.
They're small figures, originally made to fit with 1:32 scale models.
I don't have their brothers from Playspaces Prior or RAE.
First two figures are color variations of the same sculpt or at least almost identical. 3rd figure is a different model.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] is not marked, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] is marked HONG KONG and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] is marked MADE IN HONG KNO
Interesting is also their difference of weight, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] weighs 4g, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] weighs 5g and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] weighs 7g. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] is a larger figure so it is natural but interesting to find difference in weights between [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] what shows that they're made with materials of different density.

About their sizes, First models are 69 mm long while the last model is 73 mm long.
It means the third model is the same size of the Hausser, so Roger, you can use all of these as 1:32 scale. Apparently only Britains didn't use extreme lengths to represent this animal.
It is also weird how these figures were painted. If the first two follow a similar layout, the larger model is almost painted like a ratel. [You must be [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to see this image.]
Sure the Britains is the most realistic among all of these for the reasons Roger pointed, namely the knuckling front paws that are often uncorrectly represented  but proportions are also better on Britains model. For example, the Elastolin figure has a very long body for such a discreet tail. It is good to remember that these animals cover their body with their tails when sleeping, something the Hausser can't do. Paige, you got the figure I call killer whale male with open mouth - on TAW. [You must be [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to see this image.]
It is a perfect baby for that impressive mother you rescued. I defintely like the AAA orcas with this pose, they display so nicely and that pair works so nicely together.

Sorry the photos aren't great. I need to buy some lego or something but hope they are some use.

Your photos are surely very informative, however, to use them on TAW, it is more useful when we use pictures of individual figures.
Though, I will surely give use to your information and also pics. Some AAA figures are sold with a pair of youngsters and often marked with [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. There are also some adultes with [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], maybe it means these are sold together in sets but it is something still to find out.
Thanks for telling those are marked tiger shark, actually they look somewhat like sand tiger sharks instead but I will study it better when workin on sharks. Recently I sorted rays and I opened a page dedicated to them. - I only found these 6 models, the large devilfish is often sold with two babies but I can't find any difference between them.

Okay, so I turned my attention to these guys a while ago, trying to figure out what they were and to get whichever ones I could find. First of all, success figuring out how they were packaged, anyway! Or at least how SOME of them were packaged.

One size of the Kid Kore Stable Champions with rooted hair was sold with a pair of solid plastic minis, a mare and foal (it seems like). Kid Kore was available only in Wal-Mart, as far as I could find. It was registered in 1998 and then dissolved in 2009. Aside from what is on Toy Animal Wiki already, that's all I could find.

Interestingly, the package does not acknowledge the minis at all. Once I saw how they were packaged, though, I thought it would be pretty easy sailing from there to figure out what was available - just begin by assuming each horse on the backcard had two matching minis. Turns out, definitely not as easy as that.

Here are the ones still in package that I could find pictures of:

The back card:
[You must be [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to see this image.]

French Trotter [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

French Trotter [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Saddlebred

Westphalion

And here are their minis, closer:

French Trotter [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] (no image contained the entire model, never saw its head)

French Trotter [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Saddlebred

Westphalion

Things got weird quickly when I started finding physical models, though. For instance (all minis are stamped with Kid Kore 1999 China):

My appaloosa foal doesn't match either Appaloosa [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] or Appaloosa [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] on the backcard. That could be attributed to them simply not worrying too much about matching, and just having an appaloosa pattern, but then I found a matching horse in the same mold as some of these. Could there have been later sets with new colors? I suspect that's possible, meaning there could be a slew of them out there. I also found a photo of a matching mini mare:

This mini also doesn't match any existing sets on that back card. Maybe it goes with the pinto, you might think, but I have the matching mare and foal mini set on their way to me for that. I had no luck finding anything that looked like this one, except perhaps a leopard appaloosa:

Here's one that I believe does go with one of those pictured horses. Weirdly enough, I think this is the Palomino. The French Trotter [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] is the actual palomino color, however. Oops.

This foal might belong to one of the two appaloosas. I would guess Appaloosa [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], but since it doesn't match very well, I don't know without seeing it in package.

And finally, a confirmed set! This mare and foal are the Saddlebred. I did not buy the large horse that came with them, though it was available.

I found photos of a few more but they aren't mine. Here's what I think they are, though.

Thoroughbred (because they Westphalion set, though black, is in a different pose)

And Hackney (which looks exactly like the Saddlebred on the backcard)

I could be completely wrong on those guesses, of course. They might be something totally different. Once the pintos arrive, I'll include their photos as well, though they are stuck currently in California. If you found yours, Paige, I would love to see them! Or if anyone else has any, please share! :) I really like them. Unfortunately, most of them do not stand well on their own, so displaying them will be a bit tricky.

I wonder if GSDs are [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] due to their use and popularity as K9s, so many may be accessories to action figures etc. They're probably one of the most globally recognized breeds too, because of their use as military/police/assistance dogs. Besides, it seems their molds and wolves get used interchangeably, so more bang for the buck for the manufacturers.

As for other breeds, their rankings probably will rise and fall due to their pop culture popularity would be my guess. So with the collies for example, they were immensely popular in film, advertising and literature in the mid century Lassie days, as well as in real life with dog owners. I bet if you broke the dog model statistics down by decade, collies would be right up there with or maybe even top the perennial GSDs in the 50s and 60s. Now, French Bulldogs are very much an 'in' breed, as are Pomeranians, so I'm not surprised that they've not only appeared in models but risen to the top, while collies- no longer so popular- have fallen.

You are so right, and definitely an interesting point about GSDs as action figures too! I would of course love to see more collies but as you said, the Lassie days have now gone and so we probably won't see as much of this lovely breed. But on a positive note maybe as trends change we will see new breeds in this hobby!

Before adding these and since you are checking them carefully.
Do you think I should list #1, #2, #10 with this black #4 and #11 as Play Visions minis while the other marked with numbers as Club Earth To Go as long as the mistery is not solved?
I was listing the numbered as Club Earth while those marked China as Play Visions but probably it makes more sense the other way round because those you call Play Visions match the catalogue and it is a Play Visions catalogue after all.

These two models with number 12 from the same lot destroy any theory.

I'm beginning to get a glimmer of an idea of how difficult identifying and categorizing animal figures must be!

Quote :
OK, there are several reasons why the same figures can present different numbers.
If they are sold by different brands it likely will happen. Sometimes also when they are sold in different kinds of packaging like cases, blisters, bags, etc even if these sets belong to the same brand. It happens often because the number of figures available in each set is different so they need to adjust the numbering. Sure, it is not a rule and as you have two figures with [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], it is unlikely the case here.

Okay, that makes sense! I just didn't know you could change the actual mold, I thought they were probably metal or something otherwise difficult to adjust small details on?

Quote :
One thing is evident, you have at least figures from two sets, likely three sets. [You must be [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to see this image.]

Okay, that's what I was wondering. I will note that I have no proof these dogs were originally sold together, as they were not new in package. Possibly the seller had them from different sets and lumped them together?

Quote :
Let's start trying to group a set.
I believe your Maltese is [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], that's the number nobody can see. [You must be [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to see this image.]

Makes sense to me!

Quote :
Could you tell me (with numbers) which figures are from your childhood?

Yes, certainly:
- Original to me, not purchased in a group: 7 West Highland, 9 Poodle, 11 Dachshund
- Purchased together as a lot (but unclear if packaged together originally): 1(?) Maltese, 2 Pug, 3 Yorkshire Terrier, 4 Scottish Terrier, 5 Poodle, 6 Pomeranian and Dachshund (I didn't even notice this overlap at first!), 7 West Highland, no 8 or 9, 10 Collie, no 11, 12 Brittany and Malamute

So with the Lhaso Apso, there are the correct number of dogs, just the wrong numbers!

Now I am so curious if the same seller would have multiple different numbered duplicates and just groups them randomly! They had at least two sets for sale I know because it popped up again after I bought mine.
