- I've always defined "major brands" as those that produce figures in the solid, hard plastic material and are easily accessible by main outlets. This means it's not a brand that sells to other brands or is listed exclusively as a different brand (ex. Mojo partnered with Animal Planet, but Animal Planet is not selling the figures in their name. They're sold as Mojo with Animal Planet). That excludes brands like Nayab, PV, AAA, and figures of a similar material marked "CHINA". What I mean by "main outlet" would exclude auction sites like eBay, as that's a site where anyone can sell whatever. Places like TGF or MPV are one single distributer.
"Major brands" a difficult term to define simply, it's more in the details than in the facts. The best way to think of it is to just recognize the major brands for what they are, the "major brands." (CollectA, Mojo, Schleich, Safari, Papo, and Bullyland) "Major brands" means EXACTLY what someone (anyone) defines it to be. It's a question of individual context. If, for the purpose of a discussion such as this one, everyone can agree on a single definition, that's great, though unlikely... |

| It's always a great pleasure to read something about Philosophic concepts on STS And I agree with Phil, maybe we could agree on a single definition. Here is mine and as far as I know it is also the STS definition so it could help maybe ? A Major brand on STS is a brand which can be find in the "Major Brands" section of this forum. So why these brands are considered Major here ? And not the others ? Simple question... easy answer The smallest of this "Major brands " are BULLYLAND and PAPO. The German company have "only" 281 topics and 5959 posts. The French one have less topics, 243, but 8165 posts. The whole "Japanese brands" section have 243 topics (like PAPO alone) and 4677 posts (less than BULLYLAND). KAIYODO is the Biggest of the Japanese brands and have 83 topics and 1814 posts. In the " Other modern companies" section, AAA is the biggest brand with 112 Topics and 1871 posts. I guess it is an "objective" explanation. I suggest we could use this as a guideline |
