| I would like to present my new figure. Continuing large recently extinct animals in Europe.. It is a Tarpan stallion made on a scale of 1:20. I decided to make copies for those interested. (Wikipedia) The term "Tarpan " (Equus Ferus) has been loosely used to refer to the predomesticated ancestor of the modern horse to the predomestic subspecies believed to have lived into the historic era. Traditionally, two Tarpan subtypes have been proposed, the Forest Tarpan and Steppe Tarpan, although there seems to be only minor differences in type. The general view is that there was only one subspecies, the Tarpan, Equus ferus. The last individual, which died in captivity in 1909, was between 140 and 145 centimetres (55 and 57 in) tall at the shoulders, had a upstanding mane, a grullo coat colour, dark legs, and primitive markings, including a dorsal stripe and shoulder and legs stripes... Here are the pics. Hope you like it !! : [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Miguel |

| Thank you 4U, Alien, Susanne, Bjarki, Geospiza, Wolfie, Maya, MiniZoo, Jane and Andreas !! Glad you like this figure of a rare specie . Susanne I love the Przewalskis by Schleich and CollectA but it is true that it misses a figure of tarpan in any brand to increase our herd ! | Thank you for your words Harriet, Florian, Pege and Ulinuk !! Pege, I am pleased that you are interested in this european specie along with the aurochs and wisent have always fascinated me. To make this figure searched the internet looking historical information about these extinct animals that had not long ago. Pictorial representations of very similar animals found in caves in various parts of Europe. Finally the horse race that takes his blood of the genes of this specie, I mean the Konik horses from Eastern Europe. I will charge 40 euros for a figure pained plus shipping depending on the country will be traveling back the Tarpan. | Hey Miguel, thanks for the info. I am not sure, but wasn't the last tarpan a hybrid with a domestic horse? Pictures are rare, so i was wondering where you got your ideas from,....I also like the imagination of such big mammals once roaming europe. Not even long ago. At least for nature and evolution, but of course way more than a human lifespan,....Lions in greece, cave lions, big herds of aurochs and tarpan,....my first impression where Heckel cattle and Koniks kept together at Hellabrunn (Munich Zoo). The price is pretty fair i think so please reserve one for me. |
