Pfeiffer used the same master-models for 60 years.

The Zebu in our colour photographs is a 1950's casting, but the other four are much older.

At first, Pfeiffer used small moulds, so big animals were cast in front-and-back halves, glued together, and then the join was covered in filler and tooled to match the surrounding skin or fur. You can see this on the Elephant, Camel and Bison.

And you can see how much wood-boring beetles LOVED the filler-material!
