1:18 Bull Asian Elephant

Hey Everybody,

I've been working on a 1:18 Asian elephant bull for a little over a month now. He is 8 inches tall, 10 inches long and 3.5 inches wide. He is loosely based on the temple elephants found in Southern India. They tend to have a more robust build. Let me now what you think!

One thing : Perhaps it is the photo, or is the eye a bit too high up ? Well, soory, I am no expert   

Great that the temple elephants are more sturdy ! I did not know that. They are gorgeous

Thanks everyone! Yes, I'm trying to finish up the right side, then I'll start the left. This project is taking way longer than I anticipated due to its sheer size alone.

Susanne, thanks for pointing that out. I moved the eye down a couple of millimeters and brought the tusk skin up a little to better resemble the elephant who I was using as a reference. After working on one part so long, I got a little tired so everything looked good at the time.

Haha I know this feeling! When you look at the project in morning it might be erm.. a little less magnificentxP

But now the elefant is much better, - fantastic, actually

Thanks for the comments everyone. I took a small break before I resumed work hahaha.
Now I've completed detailing the entire right side, save for a few minor things when I'm completely finished.

It's amazing how much time goes into a model of this size, but will be well worth the effort - looking great so far. Well done.

I'm actually reconstructing him a bit to make him look even more realistic. I've been speaking with an individual who makes animal and dinosaur models for museums in Europe. I found him on Instagram. He's given me a little more insight in detailing.

Hey Everyone,

I took a long hiatus on this model. I had sculptor's block and was stuck for a few months, so he's been sitting there lol. I finally found inspiration in a handsome wild bull elephant I saw in India last May. I scrapped the entire head and started from scratch, and based him off of that wild bull. I also filled out his back more. He's baked, sanded him down, and rubbed him with alcohol (Thanks for the tips, Andrew!). I'll start painting him in a few days.

That's another great representation of an elephant. It looks many people like you is able of making good looking elephants and I keep not enjoying elephant figures anytime I visit a shop.
You're performing a fantastic job, it was really a good idea to share your experience with other sculptors.
Lions and elephants are equally popular but incredible that much more people make elephants than lions.

You have made a very good-looking elephant! I cannot wait to see him painted.
