I understand your point Anna but IMHO there is different ways to look at a babirusa, the two guys above are different but they both seem realistics.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Thank you for additional photos Christophe. I still think the Collecta has a bit too flat top line, and a bit not enough volume in her belly, a bit too short legs (maybe the hooves could be smaller also) it lacks anatomical structure in hindquarters and also some smaller details don't look quite right, for example the eyes are too big. But of course animals vary and perhaps some will be more similar to CollectA creation indeed. However, isn't the photo on the black background actually a Zbrush rendering? _________________ Anna Horse and Bird studio - Horse sculptures My model horse collection

Oh well, that's just my opinion, I may be wrong too I'm also happy to see babirussa in made by modern toy company, I too think it's amazing choice of species. I said that before too And CollectA showed all most important characteristic of the specie very well: wrinkled skin and very impressive, a bit scary teeth. So it is indeed very easily recognisable. Actually I think these animals are indeed quite a challenge for sculpting. The first thing that we all see in this species are the unusual teeth and the wrinkled skin. This may interrupt whole attention of the sculptor from the silhouette and proportions of this mammal. Anyway this model has certainly many things to enjoy: nice texture, great teeth, beautiful coloration (it's very well painted) and good pose. _________________ Anna Horse and Bird studio - Horse sculptures My model horse collection

| Wow! it's a great model and definitively a challenge for a modern toy company, because the industrialization process it's for sure not easy. Thank you Numman and Collecta for that work.
As in another collecta models the head is big (or the body is small), and maybe is something that's not quite fine with hooves and eyes, but I think there's a big effort for Collecta on making that model. I would like if it's the same size as the babirusa I release some months ago. Numaan, can you give us sizes? |

- I am proud to present my particular highlight from the 2015 wildlife collection - a Sulawesi Babirusa!
I have championed this species and have requested this from CollectA for the last 2 years and finally they agreed - thank you!
The tusks were tricky to sculpt but here it is in all it's glory - a mature male Babirusa. I have the prototype already and the detailing is incredible. Will post photos of that soon.
The skin colour was debated - some are dark greyish in colour and others are lighter but the lighter ones tended to be the dried mud on their bodies. The prototype I have is a lighter colour but the final model will be a darker grey as per the photo below. It took months to sculpt this but I hope the finished result will please everyone. Just wait till you get this model in your hands!!!
It's size will be similar to the CollectA Hungarian Pig so it will fit in with our wildlife collections perfectly.
The first modern day Babirusa model has arrived.......

| It is always good to see a healthy debate so don't worry Ana, you are not complaining. You are a perfectionist like me so not to worry The Babirusa nearly never made into this year's releases and it can be hard commenting on animals to someone who must relay thisinformation again to someone else in another language. Sometimes an executive decision is made on some animal's to run with it especially where the sculting is so good that there is a danger of losing this completely if drastic changes are made. The head could have been smaller but after all the sculpting to have this reduced would have been problematic and so the executive decision was made. This is by no means an excuse in any way but merely some further information about the animal. Besides, having looked at so many Babirusa images it is clear that they all vary in shape and size and proportion that is can be hard so apologies to those for whom this model may not represent the stereotypical characteristics you were hoping for but I am happy that CollectA took the bold step of releasing this model - perhaps we will soon see the release of other Babirusa's from other brands? Another point to note is that even when I look back at some of the earlier CollectA antelopes I see room for improvement in so many areas but remember this was the first time the CollectA sculptors had to make this and over time they improved. This is also the second time they have had to make a wild pig species and so maybe the next one (hopefully a Peccary species) will be even better. Small steps at a time.... Personally I am happy with the Babirusa and think it is great but this is my opinion and so I am happy to ignore any minor issues but this is my personal opinion. Anyway, please continue the debate, there is no problem in doing so. Critscism both good and bad are helpful and only show how passionate we all are [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| Thank you Numaan! It's good to see your positive reaction towards my critique. I think yes, it sounds quite negative from my side but I criticised because i was so excited about the species choice, and these animals as many of the weird mammals are among my favourites. I never forget the feeling when I saw them for the first time in BBC documentary (or was National Geographic?) and I was totally surprised with their appearance (asking myself "what a crazy muddy monster is that?" ) I was maybe 8 years old and haha, that pig was for me amazing discovery (especially that these teeth can actually hurt their skin or even eyes while growing too long, how crazy the nature is sometimes?). I agree that these pigs can have pretty diverse body shapes, some will have smaller and flatter heads and some will be more fat or more slender. And I agree there is still room for progress in CollectA sculpt work when it comes to wild pigs. I'm sure they will improve in future species. _________________ Anna Horse and Bird studio - Horse sculptures My model horse collection

| I believe it is not a masterpiece, I also hasn't got impressed with the picture at all but truly excited for seeing a babirusa, actually, the figure looks very decent to me, the problem is that the bar is to high considering CollectA. i know that is a very hard figure to sculpt and the company was brave to do it. I remember that Mojo planned it before and the figure was never released. There's another important point, I have finally a babirusa and I am sure that are not some little details that will make me say no to a figure that I wished for a long time. Thanks CollectA, I am really happy! |
