Playmobil animals - is there an online picture reference guide? Empty
PostSubject: Playmobil animals - is there an online picture reference guide?   Playmobil animals - is there an online picture reference guide? EmptySun Nov 23, 2014 1:40 am

I have recently (sort of) become interested in Playmobil animals. They are nothing like the current brands but there is something charming about them. I came across a camel and a moose in a German flee market and now having looked on google I have seen Okapi's, Gnu's, deer, Caribou, chamois, Buffalo so I am thinking about possibly collecting one each of these hoofed animals just for fun.

However there are many variation play sets on sale and I want to know if there is a website that shows images of all the Playmobil animals ever made - some sort of comprehensive reference guide. Does anyone have any ideas?

thanks

Numaan, Tim (Tiermann) is the best person to suggest it once his own website is dedicated to the brand. I think you can find a lot of information on Toy Animal Wiki, those are actually pictures from Tim collection too. Very Happy
I believe the numbers are for sets so they can help you finding it. Though, you can often find Playmobil figures being sold out of their sets. Very Happy

Yes, my website is the definitive source. I add things to the Wiki as I have time, but only when I have a photo of the animal in my own collection. Animobil includes photos from other collectors to fill in gaps, as well as catalog photos of animals that we haven't gotten in hand yet for whatever reason. So it is as complete as it's possible to make it. There is an image gallery of everything on my site located at TOC Images
Including announced releases and every known official color variation there are 1078 animals by Playmobil.

Hi Tim

thanks for your comments. Your website is excellent and a great resource.  I have only just found some interest in these models and purchased the Okapi's and am wondering whether I should start collecting the other animals. They are not really my thing but there is something about them that makes them very appealing......I cannot put my finger on it....there is just something....

Why on earth did they stop making the Gnu? I think that model is wonderful and why have they never just sold one complete set of all animals in one huge box set? That would be awesome. You also list a male and female okapi but are they not just the one model?

I don't think the gnu will be back because of the hard horns, they would need to make a new one with softer plastic for the horns these days to meet their safety standards. The male okapi is a new one that will be released around February for the German market with a new zoo series that is coming out. The okapi family of three will be available in a bag set by themselves for a reasonable price.
There was one large set with many animals in it not too long ago, called Animal Paradise. It's set 4095 Klickypedia Link It's a pretty broad assortment of forest wildlife.

I want that Animal Paradise set for a long....long time!
(Can't find it for a good price Sad)
I'm still in doubt whether to keep or not to keep my Playmobil collection.
But with this set, it makes it way easier for me to decide!!!
One shelf full of forest animals and some horses and cattle <3 (The rest will go then...)

Does anyone know the playmboil part number for the Gnu? This is missing from the animobil website.

Any ideas when the Gnu was also discontinued? What was the last set it was available in?

thanks

I don´t know where I should add news about Playmobil. But there are new releases, you can find them here:
Playmobil Wiltopia

When I was young, I used Playmobil figures to fill the gaps because there weren´t as much modern companies with such a diversity on animals. With the time, I could replace my Playmobil figures with CollectA, Bullyland, Mojo or Safari.
And now looking those new figures, I see more animals that weren´t available yet. A Hoatzin! Howler Monkeys, a special heron, ocelots...it remind me of my childhood :)

I love the playmobil figures. I find some of them very elegant with clean lines, cuteness and warmth in them.
The designers have done a very good job.
Years ago I bought the forest deer and displayed them in my porcelain cabinet because they were so pretty!
I have a few more in my collection now. I find they fit in nicely with 1/32nd Britains figures:D
I've got the polar and bears, wild boar, piggies, deer that I can remember. They all remind me of the nice tactile smoothness of some of the more elegant Kinder Surprises, like the recent moose that came out last xmas.

On my wishlist is the Micro set of toys for your animal toys!! Very Happy Very Happy

Thanks for this amazing thread and resource pages:)
