| Merry Christmas! It's been such a busy past 6 weeks there's been no time for sculpting, but finally a chance to get back to what I love. I've nervously started my first horse sculpture - it's 1:15 scale using the poseable 'bones' method that I employed in my Gorilla tutorial. I find this really helps me with proportion. 'Bones' will get a new name soon but for now she's ready to get into her gallop pose! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

| While I was out giving my beloved little, shaggy horses their breakfast, I suddenly remembered a horse I had here for a summer, - it was a Shagya-Arabian youngster, and even if young, she did look a lot like this beautyful model |

| Very nice looking sculpture and I like how you began with skeleton Very interesting. At first when I saw the photo of the real horse I though it may be Arabian but with a big amount of muscles and maybe looking too big for a classical Arabian. And then Susanne said Shagya Arabian and this fit very well to this picture I think _________________ Anna Horse and Bird studio - Horse sculptures My model horse collection

Thankyou - I'll take your advice and call it a Shagya Now to try to capture all that beautiful muscle movement... I think this is going to be a long project! |

| Oh stunning! Only thing I would mention is watch that head - horses as Arab blood have dishy heads, your skull looks a little roman nosed. Either way it looks fantastic already! |

Good point Not relevant, but I just HAVE to mention that the Nordic thorughbred : Icelandic horse , must not have Roman nose either, - and they must not lift their tail when running |

| Yes, I'll need to modify the skull a little. It was modelled from a horse skeleton graphic that in hindsight was clearly not Arabian!

The skeleton is made of super sculpey and the body is modelled from super sculpey firm. Here's another update with the musculature coming along now. Sorry it's a bit blurry.. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| Looking good so far, I really like the musculature. Your 'bones' technique looks like a good one; do you mind if I use it in the future? |
