Small walkaround: Colorata Fossil Fish set 05 red Asian Arowana

Here's a short walkaround of Colorata's pre-2014 red version of the Asian Arowana (Scleropages formosus), number 5 in their Fossil Fish set. The model was preceded by a white/silver colourway and has been replaced with a blue colouration in the post-2014 sets. It comes with a detachable rock & sand base with a small translucent plant on it, and is supplied with a long acrylic rod one is meant to cut to a desired length. I've retained my model fairly high up, both to give it room to shine above the sans-base fish models on my overcrowded shelves and to reflect the species' surface-feeding behaviour.

The model is 7 centimeters long, making it scaled 1:13 at the largest. It's made of a fairly pliant plastic. The moulding is very reasonable - my copy only has visible seams on its barbels. These barbels as well as the fins are translucent, which can be seen in the backlit pictures below. The paintup consists of a bright red, orange, gold and dark brown. No shading or gradation in the colours is used. The paint application isn't quite in synch the scales sculpted on the model, but isn't otherwise sloppy. The use of shading or multiple hues of a colour would in my opinion have benefited the model and its base, though.

Thanks Leeann for presenting another outsider! Colorata not only offers a remarkable quality as it presents a wide diversity. I believe there aren't many arowanas in this hobby.

Besides Colorata's three colourways, Kaiyodo have released several arowanas; Yujin have their three as I recall; Marmit have two colourways of the same mould; and it could be that Bandai have created one as well. Those would be the only ones I've come across.

Colorata have very detailed and nice figurines :)

That they do. I'm hoping to find the blue colourway of the arowana in the future, in which case I'll add a small twirlaround of that, too, here.
