Cinereous vulture Empty
PostSubject: Cinereous vulture    Cinereous vulture EmptyFri May 22, 2015 2:22 pm

I want to introduce my new job. This is the cinereous vulture (aegypius monachus), a raptor that has a very discontinuous global distribution in Europe and mainly found in the Iberian peninsula and Greece. Their largest populations are found in the east part of Eurasia.
In the Iberian Peninsula with the rest shared ecosystem of wildlife that lives in the so-called "Mediterranean forest and scrubland" , with other animals like the iberian lynx and iberian ibex.

"The cinereous vulture (Aegypius monachus) is a large raptorial bird that is distributed through much of Eurasia. It is also known as the black vulture, monk vulture, or Eurasian black vulture. It is a member of the family Accipitridae, which also includes many other diurnal raptors such as kites, buzzards and harriers. It is one of the two largest Old World vultures. The cinereous vulture is distinctly dark, with the whole body being brown excepting the pale head in adults, which is covered in fine blackish down...This vulture is a bird of hilly, mountainous areas, especially favoring dry semi-open habitats such as meadows at high altitudes over much of the range. Nesting usually occurs near the tree line in the mountains. They are always associated with undisturbed, remote areas with limited human disturbance..."

Some of you have already seen pictures of my figure in facebook. I hope you like it! Very Happy

Paolo, here I show a picture next to the griffon vulture of Schleich (on a scale of about 1:12). I tried to play my figure in 1:20.

Here another picture next to white-tailed-eagle of Kaiyodo (I think in a similar scale).

Miguel, I love the fact that you focus your works in Iberian fauna. Adding to it, it is a remarkable work again from you! Rapaces are not easy to get correctly and you did it with this vulture! Very Happy

Roger, I am very grateful for your words and glad you like the figure !! Very Happy . It was really hard to finish on this scale and retouch certain details ...eyes, nose, mouth and claws, and then paint with very fine brush.

Representing some species of the Iberian fauna maybe I could explain the proximity to me and the love that I have to have seen them often. sunny

This is really outstanding! I'm really impressed by the feathers around the neck. Will they make it harder to cast?

I'm glad you like it bjarki !! Very Happy . It was a little hard to make the mold for the number of recesses having the figure but doing ls necessary vents in the silicone mold had a happy ending. I also wanted to single out a mold in two parts to avoid pasting fragments separately, but the cut between the two parts of the mold was a bit tricky.

Here you can see some of the cast in resin in which the cut mold shown.
