Any animal figure shops in Charleston, SC?

Hi all,

I have to attend six weeks of job training in Charleston, South Carolina starting this week. I'm very sad that I have to be away from my husband and animals for so long, but I will have access to downtown Charleston on the weekends. Does anyone know of any great animal toy or figurine shops I could visit in the area? Even if it is hard being away from home, I want to make the most of my time there.

Is there a chance that your husband can come to see you there ?

Many years ago I attended a seminar in Charleston, and was fortunate to have a week end with local people...Charleston is a very, very charming city with lots to see....but beware the alligators

Six weeks seems very long to me. My husband had a recent back injury so I have to board my horse and donkeys at a stable, but I think they will take good care of them. My hubby will take care of the dogs. Maybe he can fly over and visit if his back feels better soon.

But perhaps time will fly ? And hopefully it will lead to a better job ?

Are you going to stay in a hotel ? Or is it a place with other people in training ?

I am staying in a dorm on a military base. Although it is surprisingly nicer than it sounds.  

It is training for my current job. With this training, I will be able to work from home a couple days a week in the future instead of going to the office five days a week, so it should pay off in the future.

Three weeks in, and today I finally got a chance to see one of the toy stores in the area. They had a small selection but several things to look at: a few Schleichs, a few Papos (human figures only), a few Breyers, and few Little Critterz. I did not buy anything surprisingly, but it is always nice to see figures and figurines in person. If their Little Critterz horned puffin hadn't had a broken wing tip I probably would have bought him, although I would still hesitate since they don't sell them with their boxes and I would need to fly home with them.

Perhaps I will have better luck next weekend. I found more stores in a different area to visit.

I am starting to get homesick. I miss my husband and my animals! But I stay busy here, so it will be over soon. Two weeks to go tomorrow!

I hope you are having fun also, and learn a lot of useful stuff ?

In a way it is good that you begin to become homesick. How horrible if you didn't miss home at all

I made it home last week and I am so glad I am done with training. I missed my husband and my animals, my collections, my houseplants, my acreage, being able to cook, everything. The dorm life is not for me! I did a lot of fun things, like kayaking and visiting the aquarium, museums, and Fort Sumter. Charleston is a beautiful place.

I did not find very many animal figures in downtown Charleston at all. I did not have a car, but I managed to visit all of the toy shops downtown. I found more Little Critterz at the Museum, but none I was looking for.

I did find some Breyer Mini Whinnies at a Cracker Barrel restaurant and a few Care Bear figures from blind bags at a Walmart. I blame Breyer and their wonderful glittery translucent horses for my recent Care Bear figure obsession!

Hi Susanne! Yes, I made it home safe and sound, not even lost luggage. The critters and the hubby all jumped up and down!

I like the Mini Whinnies but mine barely stand. The draft stands well, but the others fall over if I even blink in their direction. So I stand them up with poster putty and arts and crafts tiles. Coins work as well as the tiles.  

Jessica, it is nice to know that you're back home and with those you love. Fortunately, there is always something to collect almost in every place of this planet. :)
