| If you mean the 2010 family, they are red deers (Cervus elaphus). For a certain time the doe was spotted but they fixed it later to a correct color. You can see all Papo wild life collection on Toy Animal Wiki [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]You can find there the species of all figure and it may be useful for you. Though, feel always confortable to ask on forum. |

| thanks! yes they are great models. Id like a red deer family set but didn't know if I should get these or Schleich's. I think Schleich just discontinued their red deer doe & fawn so I might get the Papo's. |

Yes, Schleich doe and fawn are discontinued indeed and we still don't know if a new complete family will be released in 2017. Currently available stags are dramatically different as you can see in old Susanne's picture below. | Yes, well observed! Safari is doing a good job with deers. Susanne gifted us with this comparison picture not long ago. There you can see Safari, Papo, Schleich and Bullyland red deer stags. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| Im surprised with how different they all look. Which would you say is the closest to the actual animal?
oh and Collecta has one too. The red deer certainly is popular! |

My favorite red deer stags are all vintage, especially the Lineol 4th generation that I fortunately have in my collection. Have you noticed that Schleich is releasing a new stag for 2017? You can find it [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |

| Can anyone share a photo of the Papo red deer family, including the stag, doe, and fawn together in one photo? |

Susanne posted this picture some time ago on forum. It's the early doe color but the mold is the same. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

... In my opinion Preiser or Plaho are good enough, for classic sized red deer are last 3 generations from Schleich good too. The Papo deer from first generation is absolutely offtopic (spots, body shape), the second generation has very good head (except of the antlers) but the body is wrong. The latest Safari red deer from the European toob is OK (but small), the standard sized has wrong head paint (too much white color, similar to white-tailed deer)... |

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Thank you for your answer Is the reason that Papo removed the spots from the doe's body due to a painting mistake, as female red deer do not typically have spots in nature? |

We don't have any official information about the reason why they decided to fix it but we've commented several times on forum about the fact that the red doe should not have spots. I believe someone reported it to them and they fixed it. We also can't be sure if it was a mistake or just a design decision to turn it more appealing to children. Does are incredibly poor sellers, painting them like Bambi could increase the sales perhaps. |

| Young(?) hinds can sometimes have faint spots. Not as clear as the Papo though. |

| Barbary deer, even stags, have sometime wite spots but quite faded. Though, theirantler layout is different even if they're just a red deer subspecies. Papo decision to a spotted deer has no connection with this for sure and I'm glad they decided to fix it to a standard solid color. |
