| Just got some new animals for my collection, all made in China. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]If any one knows about the reptiles I will appreciate the information of the manufacturer. The other two came with a small book with information of the animal and was like a collection from a Newspaper called El Sol from other country. |

They are Frilled lizard American chameleon, (which is not a chameleon) also called helmeted lizard or helmeted anole. Nile monitor, it could be almost any young water type monitor, all of the semi aquatic ones have that color pattern when they are babies. Marine iguana Green basilisk, also called a Jesus lizard because they can run across the water on their hind legs. |

Phil knows them ALL When I had a lot of animals at the house I kept over 300 different reptiles, from that list I have had everyone except for the marine iguana (which is not allowed to be collected, not even for zoo's). My favorite from that list is the American chameleon, it happens to be also the rarest and most expensive. It is only found on the island of Cuba and does not do very well in captivity without a lot of special requirements. I kept them and even bred them at one point. My next favorite is the frilled lizard. Back in the 90's a lot of them were smuggled out of Australia by saying they came from New Guinea, where they are very rare and not in places where people go to collect reptiles. In Australia they are very common and reptile keepers breed them regularly and now here in the U.S.A. and Europe they are now fairly common as captive raised babies. These do really well and live a long time, but they don't frill up, that is a defense and they only do it in the wild when threatened with being eaten, captive babies don't have any fear so they never spread the frills. The other 2 of the others are easy to find in most pet stores, Nile monitor gets big, almost 6 feet long and can be really mean, the basilisk is a flighty animal that needs a lot of room to run around and can't easily be kept in glass tanks as adults because they run into it and rub the nose raw. The final one, the marine iguana can't be collected but in the 60's before the law was in place an old friend took a pair and kept them in Southern California for 3 years. Later, when the law changed the San Diego Zoo received them and within a few months were both dead. It is sad, but when a keeper has 2000 animals to care for he or she can't give the special attention and cater to the needs of an animal that is very common in the wild and not a very good display animal. |

Hi Monsterhouse, on the belly it says "El Sol - Made in China", they came with some very old books I found in downtown two weeks ago and those books came with a newspaper long time ago. This bookstore have these oldbooks on a sale and I managed to get them. The Gorilla is in its original painting, the elephant was light gray but my fiance paint it like it is know. I also managed to get a bear and a Lion but they will be repainted so I did not post their pictures. |

| Very interesting and congratulations Alejandro! The back part of the elephant makes me remember the style of the Papo elephant, and if it was light grey even more! But not certainly the front legs or facial elements! Your sexy gorilla has a very nice head and pose! Reptiles are all fantastic! Which size are the El Sol mammals??? |

| Hi Monsterhouse,
The book is called in spanish "Gorila" it is a book about gorillas and it is intended for children, it talk about gorilas in a simple way so children can learn about this animals.
This book is in a square format and came with a newspaper called El Sol. Now I found this books in a small bookstore that sells only the books as the newspaper are very old.
I can try to find one for you and let you know how much to send to your country if you would like, just let me know.
regards,
Alejandro Tabini |
