PostSubject: Re: My AAA Aquisitions   My AAA Aquisitions EmptyTue Mar 30, 2010 7:45 pm

Hello All, I joined last night, while I was restless and couldn't sleep I read emails and Willy linked me here, and I'm glad to be a part of it. I hope to see lots of photos of all the collections, as that is a big way to get my ideas for additions to my dioramas. Nice deep see fish, I love the flat batfish, not sure the real name, but in Florida there is a family that that fish reminds me of that are mostly deep water and called walking batfish. They are related to anglers, and even have a lure like anglers, but it sits under the nose near the mouth and the flick it back and forth, fishing for shrimp. As the shrimp come to investigate the piece of "food" the batfish just sucks it into his mouth. I have kept several of the species that live in shallower water and though they are hard to feed they are fascinating to watch.

Great Fish, I've just bought an AAA Zebra grazing, which was poorly painted so I'm repainting it.

Welcome again Phil! cheers
As you are a fishman like me, you have a lot of knowledge about those creatures, but i m more specialized in the freshwater species, and specially cichlids as you know.
I think i saw those batfish before in a movie or so, their belly-fins are really working like little legs indeed, very fascinating indeed.
We have a fish in the northsea overhere, that has the last spines of the bellyfins seperated, so he can rest and walk on them too.
And he does taste very nice too! Very Happy

Nice new additions Torben!
Strange creatures those deep-sea fish!
I wonder what more strange creatures will come out of the deep in the coming years.

I guess it is this zebra, which Torben has too.
I bought it last year in the Rotterdam Blijdorp Zoo, because it had an original position, and that was before the new Schleich model came of course...
I think, the painting was not so bad at all.
On the picture are two, i think i did send one to Christophe some time ago.

Yes, your Zebras are painted nicely, I said it wrong I meant mine had rubs and the stripes were worn, it probably was as good as yours when first made. Actually, mine is slightly different, the legs aren't as far apart as on yours. Perhaps a later model? I'll have to upload the pictures Very Happy

Yours are a lot nicer than mine, the heads a better shape and the eyes are black. Mine the eyes are orange and the ears are slightly too big. I bought it mainly to repaint, got it very cheap, I think it will look nice once repainted.

I always do this a complete different way.
I go to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
There you see the box, in which you can upload your pictures, i think you understand this, even when it is in German.
When you up-loaded your pic, you can see it in a smaller version.
Then you go to BBCodes, and select this one: BBCode Bild in Originalgröße
Cut the link and paste it here.
After you post your tread, it will appear here on the forum, and you can see it before too under this box, before you even post it.
It must be possible though, to post over the forum too, but that i must sort out.
You hear that from me later then, ok...

Yes, like that, haha.
Good that you made a new tread for that, because you invaded Torbens tread about the deepsea-fish, haha.
doesn't matter, we all have to learn here first...

Beautiful new additions, Torben. The batfish and anglerfish are stunning, IMHO. I've only had one marine tank in my life, and it housed a small frogfish. He was a beautiful creature, and I named him "Igor" as I thought it most appropriate!

Hello Phil. My apologies for the botched photo posts. I was trying out flickr, but it is obviously not worth the effort. I'll re-do them and many others after I have registered with img.de, which I used previously with some success.

I use imgbox.de for a long time now, and it always worked for me.
Only not, when the pics have too many pixels or so, then the site says, that you have to use another format.
In that case i use photobucket.
It is in German of course, but the things you have to do there are the same as on other sites, so in time you will know how it works out there.
But after some time i saw that my pics vanished here, so i got to be a free meber, and host them there, and now it is no problem anymore. Laughing
