[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Safari Incredible Creatures "hermit crab" repainted to represent Coenobita clypeatus, Caribbean hermit crab, Soldier Crab, or West Atlantic Crab. Although the body is too large relative to the legs I couldn't find a better ID for this figure. The ID seems plausible given it's the go-to hermit crab (in North America), but the proportions may better suit a fully aquatic species somewhere. Some may recognize this from the ATF but I have since added antennae (they are just PLA filament fed through a printer with no instruction so that they come out as thin strands, but are surprisingly durable).

It is incredible that not all creatures of that Safari's line are made upt to the species level. It was important that they did it not thinking in generic creatures. I don't think it would decrease their sales. Thus, it is surely a good idea that you rework it to match something specific. Surely the result is wonderful and there's not doubts, that some hardly manufacturable parts, contribute a lot to the realism of the piece.

Looks great; and it is certainly a Coenobita, so your great paint job just takes an identification closer to a species-level.
