| A long time ago, when pandas lived in the mountains of Tibet, they were white as snow. They were friends with four female shepherds that watched their flocks, in the mountains near their village. One day as the shepherdesses where playing with a panda cub, a leopard leapt out of the bush and tried to attack the cub. The young shepherdesses threw themselves in front of the cub to save it and were killed by the leopard. All the pandas in the area were saddened by their deaths and held a memorial service to honor them and their bravery. To remember their sacrifice for the cub, the pandas all wore black ashes on their arms (as was the local custom). As they wept for the shepherdesses, they wiped their eyes with their paws, they covered their ears to block out the sound of the crying and they hugged each other in grief. As they did these things the ash spread and blackened their fur.And that's how the panda got its spots. I only have one figure of this beautiful bear and it's the Papo one. I'm looking forward to seeing yours! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| Here are my Schleich pandas, - or at least those that have not run away, but stayed in the "bears"-box The WWF-panda sitting on a plate, was made in 1982 - 1986, and so are the two smallest ones. If you have Gascher's book, you can find them under Safari Wanishing Wild, but unlike those, the pandas are marked "Schleich" To the left, the first standard model, which was made from 1990 - 2001 [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Here are some newer ones. The sitting, bamboo-eating bear i missing, and so is the walking baby. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]To the left is the charming mom ( 2002 - 2012) and her baby ( 2004 - 2014) The two sitting ones and the male to the right are still being made, as far as I know |

| A great opening of the panda SUY, Simone. The story about the giant panda's spots is both charming and sad. Thank you for sharing it. And the single panda figurine you have is a lovely model.
Susanne. Beautiful photos with several generations Schleich pandas, they are also lovely. |

| My giant panda family has grown a lot since they welcomed their new Toymany friends! My most recent additions are the Kaiyodo babies, which I found for a great price at a Portugese webshop (kawaii-panda). The shop owner is a huge panda lover and she added a bunch of cute panda stickers and wrote me a note on panda stationary, so I had to take a pic to send her back. Love those aspects of collecting!
