SCHLEICH 1993 Catalogue with Safari Ltd models

Lately there has been some questions about the Vanishing Wild and Authentics, made by Safai and marked Safari, but sold by Schleich in the early 90`s.

Today I was enormously thrilled to get a Dealer`s catalogue from 1993, and as the Safari-figueres are pictured in it, I thought it may interest somebody to see them :

Except for Smurfs and some comics, there are surprisingly few figueres actually made by Schleich in the catalogue !

If anybody is interested, I can scan the rest also. I hope nobody wants to see the smurfs, though, as there are 20 pages of them

Oh thank you Susanne, this it great - I really really would like the Vanishing Wildlife giraffe, the one standing with it's neck up - I love it! Unfortunately it's really hard to find

Yes, I wouldn`t mind being able to go back in time and buy a box of each

- but at that time I did would not have had the money for it

Wonderful post. Thanks so much for the catalog scan. I will be listing my authentics shortly. I just finishd uploading the photos. I love the Vanishing wild series and have many of them also, as well as most, if not all of the Carnegie in this catalog.

Such an interesting post, thanks for posting these. Are you able to post the front page of this catalogue and also the page that shows the Vanishing Wild Gemsboks? I really want to know if the Gemsboks were ever featured in any of the Schleich/Safari catalogues.....

Also it is interesting to see that the early Vanishing WIld models came in boxes! I only ever saw them on sale individually in the late 90s/early 2000s. The lion adults are also skinnier in the pictures that the actual models indicating that they must have been remoulded later on....

Sorry, there is no Gemsbok in this catalogue .
I don`t think Schleich ever sold a Safari Gemsbok, - as far as I know these + two pandas are the only VW they sold.

I want to add information here Susanne.

It was the same factory making the animals for both companies.

A Schleich employee told me something like this: "-Tomorrow we make animals for Safari instead." :)

WOW! I did not know that

But it sounds very strange, Safari were made in USA and Schleich in West Germany
Or did Safari also get stuff from Schleich in Germany ?
Or was it just the packaging your friend talked about ?

The factory making items for both companies were located in Asia not in Germany. If I remember it correct.

Schleich had figurines made in Asia since 1978 for the US market. So in early 1990 they worked together and the factory there made animals for both companies. :) But my knowledge about the Safarianimals is very limited so I just assume it is like this after what I was told? :)

The small catalogue is from Safari LTD. It tells the story about their animals I guess. :)

If you would compare the cataloguepictures they look the same in 1993. Both in Schleich and Safaricatalogue.

Well I pretty much wanted to see the sea animals, does it have the Tennessee Aquarium salamander collection?

And when comparing the Safaricatalogue with the Schleichcatalogue from 1992, when the Monterey Bay aquarium collection was released for both companies, the animals were also the same.

So both companies started selling these exactly the same year, meaning as said in the schleich book they made them together for both companies.

That sucks, does the 2002 include the sea otter pair and sperm whale calf?

No seaotters, But the spermwhale calf with articlenumber 443.805.1

But as you said Susanne it could be that they were made for Safari but Schleich sold them in europe?? So that is how they worked together??? :)

Anyway it seems they worked together with these and it says in the safri catalogue that the carnegie and Monterey collections were the first ones made for safari in Vinyl???

I don't think I will ever understand the histories of all the companies. It is very confusing to me! But then it doesn't take much to confuse me.

That said, I LOVE those giraffes! What scale are the Vanishing Wild series???
