Subject: Another new series- Yowie Bites! Sun 21 Apr 2019 - 13:50
I glanced at the checkout area when I was at Walmarts today, and saw a whole new series along with 1 box of series 5- Yowie Bites. It's about $1 cheaper than the regular Yowies. It's a cardboard box about the size of a deck of cards, with 2 solid(? didn't eat mine) inch high Yowies chocolate monsters, and hidden behind the front of the box a foil bag containing a small figure, a brief information sheet and a puzzle piece. I got 1 to see what they're like. A size comparison. The back shows the completed puzzle and the list of figures. What's inside. The contents of the foil bag. The figure I got- the koala. Not too impressed- paint could be better and the nose looks funny to me. They are a bit smaller than regular Yowies. This guy will be available for trade/sale. According to the box, there are 20 figures in the series with no indication of some being more rare than others. They are 1. polar bear; 2. grey wolf; 3. beaver; 4. river otter; 5.raccoon; 6. moose; 7. brown bear; 8. killer whale; 9. bald eagle; 10. American crocodile; 11. coyote; 12. seal (note- no other i.d. given, hard to see in tiny photo but looks like a sea lion to me); 13 dolphin (no other i.d. given looks like bottlenose in picture); 14. starfish (no other i.d. given, maybe sun star?); 15. great white shark; 16. platypus; 17. koala; 18. wombat; 19. red kangaroo; 20. sting ray (no other i.d. given and picture is too small for me to see much)
Roger, feel free to use any of these pictures if you want.

Those look like new ray (?) type figures to me, lower quality. Thanks for showing though!

Thanks Anna! That's a very interesting series and it opens a new way to Yowies, I guess. I have used this topic to list the figures on TAW and I will see what to do with your pictures. It is good that they are large once it allowed me to magnify it a lot and check better the animals printed. Though, it turns the topic hard to load and I am afraid some members have troubles opening it. The seal is definitively a sea lion. It happens often that sea lions are labeled as seals. Not exactly something to expect from Yowies. I have a favorite and it is the wombat.

I reuploaded your pictures in this topic once your original ones were lost. Fortunately I saved them. I couldn't find all the exact species but there's a list with most of them.
American bald eagle American crocodile Brown bear Coyote Dolphin Great white shark Grey wolf Killer whale Koala Moose North American beaver North American river otter Northern fur seal Platypus Polar bear Raccoon Red kangaroo Seastar Sharpnose stingray Wombat

To address a question I had elsewhere here, where it is easier to find later, I checked to see if the Bites figures were marked any differently than the Nayab figures. They are not really. They are all (so far - I only have 8 of them) marked CHINA except the orca, which has KILLER WHALE CHINA. This is what the Bites and Nayab koalas look like in comparison.

thanks for checking but they look different or is the right one slightly rotated towards the camera? It also looks slightly larger.

You're right, sorry for the confusion - they do have minor differences, but those do not hold true through the entire series. The font is different, but not all the fonts match. I was hoping for numbers like on the puzzle pieces, or something distinct and consistent through the whole series.

@Jill, since you have gotten the stingray, could you please share the information about the species? There are a few species called sharpnose stingray and I want to be sure which exact one they intend to represent before opening the corresponding species page on TAW.

Yes, here's the paper it came with.
"These sea gliders have been seen from North Western Australia to Indonesia and South East Asia." They did not include the scientific name or anything.

Thanks, maybe it is Maculabatis Gerrardi but the taxa is quite complex. I will list it like that and if someone gets a better identification, it can be fixed.
