| I, as you all know, have many to contribute to this thread. I am organizing the way I display my lepidopterans, so give me a bit to get images and such together. By the way, this set was just released this month by Ikimon - Nature Techni Colour (I have a set on order). Those with an asterisk are new in toy/figure form: Madagascan sunset moth: Chrysiridia rhipheus* Rajah Brooke's birdwing: Trogonoptera brookiana* eighty-eight butterfly: 'Diaethria sp' [this figure as marketed as a Diaethria, but the markings better resemble Callicore kolyma]* note: this figure is shown in the first image twice, dorsal and ventral shots. Ceylon blue glassy tiger: Ideopsis similis* plain tiger: Danaus chrysippus* Japanese luna moth: Actias artemis* Helana morpho: Morpho helena* greater death's head hawkmoth: Acerontia lachesis [Kaiyodo produced a larva] Atlas moth: Attacus atlas [Kaiyodo produced and adult] Japanese Luehdorfia: Luehdorfia japonica [previously made by Kaiyodo and Kabaya] Notice they use images of actual lepidopterans for the promotional figure, but the second figure shows the actual figures. | What is so surprising about putting home-made figures here? I'm not the first one to do it! Everybody here is welcome to put his/her Lepidopteran figurines, home-made or not. This said, I'm continuing: Here is my self-made CHRYSIRIDIA RHIPHEUS [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]And here is my self-made URANIA LEILUS [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| So, I thought I would come up with a new way of displaying flat butterfly figures. I decided to buy Riker mounts, which are flattish display boxes which use cotton to put a specimen against the glass, thus holding it in place. So I bought a few for proof of concept and I am very happy with the results. Remember, these are flat figures that are identified to the genus or species level (or have community-based identifications). Here are the initial 5: 1. Papilionidae: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]2. Pieridae: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]3. Lycaenidae and Riodinidae: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]4. Nymphalidae: Danainae: [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]I will probably need about 5 more for the rest of the nymphalids and the moths. Enjoy :-) |

Thanks and this is just a start! Normally I don't like to alter mistakes on a figure, but I think I am going to go back and cut the tails off the Safari and K&M Idea leucone. |

Normally I don't like to alter mistakes on a figure, but I think I am going to go back and cut the tails off the Safari and K&M Idea leucone. You're not collecting for dioramas neither the species best representatives. At least regarding arthropods. You get them all despite their lack of acuracy, thus, I can't see any reason to you cut their tails. They are part of the figure and they tell how companies sometimes do things. Though, it is just my personal opinion, those are not rarities and collection is yours. |
