I have a question - is he too dark in colour? I read that as they reach three years of age, their coats darken to black, is that correct?

It's not to dark, IMO. They have black color but almost always you can trace a touch of dark brown in it
Very nice animals Harriet but I must say I would prefer female. Male is very nicely done although a few mm of body length wouldn't hurt him. His torso could be longer, again - just my opinion, I could be wrong

Amazing Sable family, Harriet!

"As male mature black tints on the face, flanks and shoulders begin to suffuse the red until, by 5 years(but for the white face pattern and underparts), they are black. Females of the southern population also turn black. In other populations females blacken more slowly and less completely" The Kingdon field guide of African mammals

So, your coluors are perfect!

Harriet you did a wonderful job on your Two sable antelopes I just finished one myself that I hope to post If I can figure out how to do it. ( me and technology are not good friends.) any way keep up the great work your talent is quit amazing and I can't wait to see what you do next. Happy sculpting.
